Well the adventure begins. I checked my order status for the upgrade online and found they were bringing the 3 LNB dish for Monday's installation. I called D* and they had to cancel my order and redo it to get the 5 LNB dish. Now installation is pushed back till next Saturday the 3rd. I did get them to waive the $99 upgrade fee in this installation though. I guess another week won't kill me but I was looking forward to Monday night football in HD finally.

I'm scheduled for Tomorrow morning... though it supposed to rain, so we'll see what happens....

I got an H20, install, and new dish for free. Install on 12/6.

Are you a current D* user, or new cust? If a current user, do you currently have an HD setup?

We started installing these on the 23rd, but we only had 1 or 2 a day until today(29th) The HD locals are 2,5,11, and 46 or abc, fox, cbs and nbc. there are 2 sets of these channels, the first in order is the sd and second is hd, no different numbers like on ota. so on your guide it will be 2;2;5;5;11;11;36;46;46;69. I've had mine since october :smug .

So how do you directly tune to SD vs HD?

Current customer. Got the Hughes receiver around this time last year for $99. Called and wanted to upgrade because I'm in a bottom and too close to the antenna farms to get the OTA HD locals without moving my antenna. They offered for $99 and I talked them down to free by threatening to go to Comcast.

We have also been 10+ year customers, so that may make a difference.

So I took an entire day off from work. Had a 8-12 install arival. At 11:55am I get a call from DirectTV installers checking on my order.. "No, no one here yet"... wait... Ding-Dong... Gotta go, Install guy is here.

He scopes the house, see's my roof mount and says... Were not going to be able to put this on the roof.. let me check with my Supervisor, and I'll be back within the hour... sure enough.. he's back within the hour, says we'll put it in the ground on a pole, it should be good... NP.. I don't really have a prefrence, and where we put it I could easily make a small garden to keep it from being run into by the lawn mower/kids/etc...

So he goes to work on the hole, the pole, setting the dish.. (Man its BIG) on the pole.. uh ohh.... Guess what... the pole is the wrong size. Looks like the standard pole they use for 18 inch dishes is 1/4 inch to narrow for the big ones. He leaves again, says he'll call me back within the hour.

2 hours go by, and I call the national installer number, and surprise, while on the phone with them, I get another call, and its someone else from the company with an update. They had to order another pole, and it will be here on Wed. When would I like to schedule at follow up.

So they are coming back today (Wednesday) at 4:00 to complete the installation. What a cluster ****. This installer did say it was his first install of this dish. I'm glad, I'm getting it professionally ??? installed, as there is Vertical, Horizontal and angular adjustment to the dish, versus just Vert and Horiz for the 18" dish.

I'll update once this thing is up and running, but for those in the ATL you may want to make sure they have the right pole size before they concrete it into the ground.

Ohh.. and the H20's do in fact have an OTA antenna input on them as well... So that is why DirecTV is putting the OTA antenna as part of the install....

conekiller, I have my install set for Dec. 10 also in Atlanta. I was going to try and pre-install the pole myself because I did not think the installer would use concrete. Was your installer set to use concrete? My current 3-LNB dish is on a pole as well, and the installer did not use concrete.

The installer was all set to use concrete, though he used the method of pour some concrete in the hole, add water, mix, pour some more, repeat... I would have mixed it all sepereate then poured into the hole.

Before you put your own in, you may want to find out the diameter of the pipe that is used.... If I get the documentation for the dish, then I'll post on here the size pipe that is called for.

If they insist on a pole install, I'm screwed. There is absolutely no way a pole install will work in the back yard due to trees, and my wife would die before allowing it to go in the front yard. Guess we'll need to look at a chimney mount. Why wouldn't they do a roof install? I've seen numerous posts there a roof isntall is done and a bipod is used to help shore it up.

Who was it that did that install, and what area of town? I want to call them beforehand to see what we can work out. If not, looks like it could be goodbye to DTV and hello to Comcast.

This page has the needed info:

It is a 2" pipe. I think the old one was 1 5/8".

OK... so my 4pm appointment has been confirmed to "After 4:00PM". It's now 5:30 and no one is here... I wonder how they are going to install this thing in the dark???

Time will tell patience gets thin.....

My original HD install this time last year was late...he showed up around 7pm and went ahead and did it. Had one of those little miner's lights on his head. LOL

Dervari we'll see what happens...
I called back DirecTV Services (The installation arm of DirecTV), and they couldn't get hold of anyone, and the local offices was surprise, closed.

She wanted to schedule a new date for me, but I insisted on a supervisor. He won't get there untill tomorrow morning at 8:30... she is supposidly leaving my paperwork on his desk. I'll give them until 9:00 AM and then I'm calling back.

I'm into this now 8 hours of vacation for the originial install date and another 2 to make it home tonight.

The worst part.. no call from the local installers.. nada...

I'm hope some of you have a better experience... I'm getting closer to throwing in the towel and going with Comcast.

Be sure to ask for a concession from DTV. 6 months of a premium package for free is fairly standard. My guy was 6 hours late and I got 6 months of HBO for free.

New 5LNB Photos

Well...first on my block (and probably Zip Code) to have the new MPEG4 equipment installed.
