Is it possible to get an HD reciever and dish without having to have two wires coming from the rooftop, because It is not possible for me to do so. When I was looking around on the web it appeared their was one but it was for Dish Network.
Thanks

Not sure if I understand this exactly, but you can have the dish mounted on a pole in the ground and run wires from it, if the roof is not an option.

also, an HD rec. only need one line to it, the reason for 2 lines to a rec. is to make use of the second tuner on the HD DVR, this way you can record more than one show at a time or watch something other than what your recording.

what is the SWM and when will it be available?

Single Wire Multiswitch, it's in beta testing now, it would allow you to do the 2 line stuff with only the one original line.

It is NOT available yet and no word if it will be a user available item or just thru D* installers.

because, I do not know how I would get the second wire in because the first wire was put in before the sheetrock. And dont know how I would get the second wire in because I dont have an attic.

any suggestions? or should I just go with cable to get HD, the only problem with that is that im looking at like 20 HD channels vs 100+ by DirecTv

So you are doing a self install/upgrade and you do not want to do a wall-fish? You have no attic or crawl spaces? Also RG6 does NOT have to be laid inside the wall, you can do a baseboard or even run under the carpet/baseboard edge.

I could have Directv do the install... I have a very small attic, but it is no where near where my recievers are, It would be very difficult to do a "wall-fish"

That is what I would suggest, at least get them out and talk your ideas over with them....AND they likely would not do a wall-fish in the included FREE install or upgrade, BUT they and you can discuss the how and where beforehand and as long as you have LoS they WILL get you running. AND for a fee you can even get the wall-fish too. Remember, most of the people are pros AND they generally have special tools the avg user does not have, making the seemingly impossible, very doable.

DO you think they will make a new one someday that requires only one wire, because looking on the internet I see on eviews at CNET, their is one. Here is what it says
It has two satellite tuners that necessitate two wires coming down from the rooftop satellite dish--for what it's worth, the Dish ViP622 needs just one--and requires a big 26x30-inch 5-LNB dish (typically included in the installation at no charge) for full functionality.

But, the ViP622 is for DIsh Network... Will their be one like this for DirecTV, or am I miss understanding this?

Directv has developed a Single Wire Multiswitch (SWM-5 or SWM-8) which will allow a single cable to feed 5 or 8 tuners. It has been in field test for several months and the SWM-5 is now being installed (where multiple cables are not practical) in a few markets (with more to follow). The SWM-8 will also be used as part of the MFH-2 system for MDU (multi-dwelling unit) installations. Four cables are run from the dish to the SWM (which can be mounted outside) and a single cable can feed everything in the house (actually there are two SWM outputs available). The SWM is compatible with the H20, H21, HR20, HR21, D12 and the upcoming R16 (I'm not sure if the software has been enabled on all of these yet). There are separate outputs for older receivers, but these require additional cables.

Are these SWM available already because it would be impossible to run a second wire from my rooftop to my recievers????? This would work though, because I CANNOT run the 2nd wire in for HD capatibility?

We have ONE at the shop but i think it is just for show-n-tell.

The SWM needs to be connected to all four lines from the dish (could be at the dish). Then one lines runs inside the house where it is distributed somehow. Only the most recent DirecTV receive can use the SWM signal.

Now back to now. You need to think about running additional lines. They all don't have to enter the house in the same place, just come together in the same place for attachung a needed multiswitch.

So if I could get an SWM it wouldnt require me to run anymore wires, but if I didnt have the SWM it would require me to run more wires, correct?
