He seems to be the only inside source that's credible.

I would have to agree here. I doubt that they will add any channels to DISH HD Absolute, considering its not being offered anymore and they want all the customers to switch to Turbo HD.

Its like the old $10 MPEG2 HD package they had a few years back with about 7 channels. Dish came out with the new $20 HD package that included VOOM and left the customers who had the $10 package alone.

Any new channels where in the $20 package, and if a customer wanted those new channels they had to switch.

As long as the providers are not taking any channels away from the package you subscribe to, the customer really does not have a leg to stand on when new channels are available and they are not automatically added to the older packages. Either upgrade of keep the package you currently got!

Sticking with absolute

Based on the list of new HD channels for this year being discussed in another thread, I am staying with HD Only.

I agree with you 8bit.
It's going to take a lot more than that assortment of HD channels Charlie may be adding to get me to give up my absolute pack. It's a great variety of channels for the price that has more than I can possibly watch anyway.

Not me. If Comedy Central and Spike are added, I will go to TurboHD Silver. I would also get my RSNs. I wouldn't miss the Gold-level stuff. Heck, although I'd miss HD Net Movies and MGM, I would opt to save the $10/month. FX would be icing. E! would be another good motivator (are you listening, Charlie?)

If I recall, though, there was also an extra component to those requirements, since they were trying to leverage people into moving to the new MPEG-4 equipment at the time. Even though the "MPEG-4" programming wasn't exactly such, to begin with :)

So, it's a slightly different scenario. That said, it doesn't mean they won't still try to push people into new (more expensive) packages or that past experience would ultimately indicate any different. There is, however, arguably less extra reason (ie hardware) to create such a restriction on folks with the existing package.
