I have to think there is something in the handshake on boot that triggers it. Hopefully they work it out, unplugging the HDMI every night is not a fix...

Well, what stumps me is that the on demand video looks great, whereas the Sat feed doesn't. Where would that be a handshake issue?
When your watching a 4K vod it changes the resolution on the receiver to 2160p (4K) and turns off the other outputs on the box.
Nope. Who knows what the power profile is when it is in 4K mode. Would be interesting to stick a kill o watt meter up to a H3 to see if it uses less or more power in 4K mode.
Maybe see if neighbor will let you borrow their cable box and see how it performs. Have you tried OTA antenna straight to TV? I might of missed if you had thru this long thread. Your TV may have gone on the blink when you switched from HWS to Hopper 3.So I tried the APC UPS and same picture while powered only on battery.

I suspect slightly different circuitry is used for VOD than for satellite.
But the same thing happened with different H3 units?
Damned if I can figure it out. But I'd show up onsite with a known good H3 and a known good HWS and known good cables and known good LNB and node. Maybe even a known good TV. And a WHOLE LOTTA coax.
Run temp coax from the H3 straight to the dish, where the node would be temporarily set. Does it work?
No? Try known good boxes. If they don't work, even with known good LNB etc, then hang it up and consider the place cursed. Well, test the mains first, THEN call it cursed.
But if the straight run works, use the process of elimination to find the failure point. If no H3 works, but an HWS works, settle and call it a day.
With the price of good exorcists these days, it'd be cheaper to move.
I don't suppose there's a huge magnetic field or microwave leak where the STB is? Didn't think so.
On edit: Just saw Scott's post. I type too slow. Or too much.
I hope you don't have to switch. Good luck with the Hopper 2 setup. Very puzzling.I already suggested a straight line for Sat to Hopper 3 and a Hopper 2 for the next visit which is tomorrow. If none of that works I may be done with trying but there is also no chance I will settle with this picture quality so it will be time to switch I am afraid.

Is DISH technician still coming today to swap back to Hopper 2?I really don't want to have to go back to a Hopper 2 setup but I will try it to see if it fixes the issue.
