say, is PIP still available when a hopper plus is used ?? i use it often swapping tuners, and multi 4 channel in the mornings..

does a hopper 4 allow apps to be used, without using hopper plus on the H3 ?? does it work well ??
fuzzy memory recalls a hopper plus forum section somewhere with more information, but I don't see it..

have a h3, 2x joey 3, and 1x joey 4k... thinking of swapping some joeys for the joey 4.0 but always hesitant about change vs what's working well.. (of those boxes, one is never used, and one not very often... the h3 and 4k are the ones used every day.. )
the joey 4k doesn't have hdr, thus no 4k now ?? indy 500 was the only thing watched on the 4k channel since like baseball playoffs if i recall...

any thoughts here would be great, thanks much for your time..

You can use a Joey 4 without the plus installed and you can access the apps. I do that.

I love the PIP feature, which is why I ditched the plus once my Joey 4s were installed.
Enabling PIP would be nice.

On another note, while I really do like the Joey 4s, there is one issue that is annoying.
The Joey 4 flags all SDR output as HDR. This means that your TV will use all of the HDR picture settings for SDR content which is a problem. HDR typically has to have enabled full brightness, and the color space settings are different.

The work around is to disable the enhanced HDMI setting on the TV when viewing SDR content. Then you have to enable the enhanced HDMI setting ONLY when viewing the HDR content. For what it's worth, the Hopper 3 handles this correctly. It only passes HDR content to the TV when viewing actual HDR programming.

I raised this once before, and the response I got was that for some reason Google TV (?) required this. That is definitely not true. I have several Google TVs. They only pass that HDR flag when an app has HDR content. With due respect, I don't think the person who responded actually fully understood the issue.

If this is a software issue, it would be nice to fix it. If it is a hardware issue, then it cannot be fixed. Anyway.... rant off now!

That makes sense. If it's the chipset, it's unlikely that there is a possible software fix. Most folks probably won't realize that's not ideal operation. I have a Man Cave 75" Hisense TV with the Joey 4. On that TV, since I watch mostly SDR Dish content, I just enable the enhanced HDMI when I want to watch HDR content.

I have a 55" Samsung Q60 in my bedroom. On that set I leave the HDMI set to enhanced since I am watching without my glasses anyway. 🤪
