How long will my new 625 last?

Well guys, I have been reading alot here since I got my new 625 and I am disturbed. Seems that alot of you have issues with Dish's DVR hardware, software and overall quality of the systems? Did I do a bad thing by upgrading to DVR?

Also, how long can I expect my 625 to last? Do the hard drives crap out after 1 year? I am worried now because I upgraded from 2 standard receivers to 1 dual tuner, so if my 625 craps, I have no tv! I was able to keep the 2 standard receivers, so at least I have a back up.

So far, I love my new system, but I would like to know what I am in for down the road!

I've had my 522 (the predecessor for the 625 and about the same hardware)since 11/04. No hardware problems. The software has been improving since installed. I was worried about redundancy too but as time went on felt the reliability of the 522 was good enough not to worry. The only problem I have is I took down the roof antenna years ago and the cable got totally disconnected from the house due to a fallen tree limb. So now when we have an extended power failure I have to get out the portable (little 5" ac/dc) and watch whatever local channels we can get with the rabbit ears. I still have the old antenna and was thinking of putting it in the attic but it seems like in a few years it may not be compatable with the digital TV signals anyway.

Your 625 could go to hell tomorrow...could last until Dish switches to MPEG-4 and it stops working. No point to guessing, just enjoy it while it does work...

I would not worry about it working for a long time because it is covered under warranty and MPEG-4 swapouts will replace it (probably within the next 3 years).

wierd 522 behavior

Is hd programming worth the cost?
