I got equipment, now need aiming help

First off, my zip is 30062, metro Atlanta.

My equipment is:

DISH: Winegard 76cm dish
LNB: Techsat tracker 0.3db Standard Ku LNBF Single
MOTOR: DMS International SG-2100 DiSEqC H-H
Receiver: Fortec Star Lifetime Classic NA

So, I have it pointed at 123 degrees, but I don't see anything for Galaxy 10..help.

Try doing a search on this forum for G10 or G10R.I believe most of us have had trouble with that satellite but there is a ton of info related to finding it here.

Ok will do. I don't care really which, as long as I lock onto one and know my equipment is good., I'd also like to get IA5...

IA5 is easier to find.I would go for that unless you would rather start with your true south sat which is Nimiq 2 at 82 same as me in Buford.

Maybe what I'm having trouble with is understanding what all my settings need to be. Such as, where do I actually aim the dish and then at what point do I set the azimuth on the motor? Cause I set the azimuth on the motor and the dish is why aimed off what I thought it should be at.

Using the GAAPS site, I'm get 43.9 for the azimuth on motor for G10. So, what elevation do I need to have it? and in what direction? The whole motor idea is confusing me.

I suggest you read up on FAQ section.I learned quite a bit there then I got a bunch of help from the guys here.I had a much better understanding after reading all the info available.Much easier for us to explain things to you then.

you don't aim at 123 degrees. That is where the satellite is in the ske (longitude wise).

the motor you set the same as your LATITUDE, which in Atlanta is 34. Make sure you use the latitude side of the motor (the other says elevation)
To use the motor, you HAVE to set up your true south. NOw we have an issue.. Atlanta is at 84.4 so there isnt a true south. No biggie we can deal with that later.

My suggestion is to remove the motor and just lock in on a couple satellites so you know how this works.

AMC5 is at 79 degrees west. That is one of the "closer" satellites near you. For a fixed dish
The elevation on the dish is 50
azimuth in the sky is around 175 (almost straight south)

see if you can lock that in first

Iceberg, thanks for the help. I removed the motor, and aimed at AMC5, and my "level" is fluctuating from between 6% and 33%. I have tried to adjust the elevation and the azimuth and thats the best I'm getting...

Also, when I do the "scan," on the 4/4 progress level it locks at 26% but its unlocked until then.

On my "antenna setup" screen, I have chosen the LNB Type as 10750, what should the LNB Power be? It gives me best results at 13/18.

Ok, good thats what I had it at...so, what am I doing wrong? There are several trees in its path (and its fairly cloudy)...do I need to keep adjusting elevation and azimuth? I don't see the level going above 33% as I sit heree and watch it.

Wahhooo, ok got all 8 channels up and running with the AMC5 satellite!

I'm getting a quality of around 50% on channel 8 right now, all channels work well.

Thanks, I started to read and it all is making more sense now...so, for manually pointing the dish without the motor just yet, what else can I try? And how do I figure out what elevation and azimuth I need to point at? I'd like to try the IA5 or G10 satellites...

I would download the Satfinder program (In FAQ), or if you need post your zip code and we can post all the angles to the satellites from your area.
