Is the 722 DVR too loud for a bedroom?

I can't speak for the 722, but I can tell you the 622 in a 12x14 bedroom is LOUD enough to wake you out of a light sleep. When it does an update it really makes a racket. I need to change the time!

I'm a fairly light sleeper, and my Scientific Atlanta HD8300 drove me nuts when it would spin up and down (even when it was in standby/off). My 622 is SO much more quiet. The daily (3am) update used to bother me, but i dont think I even notice it anymore, but to be honest, the update is loud for a fairly brief burst (10 to 20 seconds).

I have s;ept within about 12 feet of my 622 and it has been no problem.

It sisnowhere near as loud asa jet taking off. IF it was that lous you would hear it anywhere in the house and probably down the block. That is ridiculous.

It is NOT as loud as described. We do not do the OP justice if we make ridiculous calims about the volume and try to justify them with smiley faces.

Set it to happen a few minutes before your alarm clock goes off. The sound will begin to break your sleep cycle and waking up will feel a bit more natural when the alarm goes off. Our bodies usually take sound and light as cues that sleep time is over. While not as abrupt as an alarm clock, it will usually signal many that it is time to wake up and the body will stop rapid-eye-movement.

I have a 622 in the bedroom and it has never woke me up, but it is loud if you happen to be awake to go to the bathroom, just change the update time. I added speakers to mine so I can set it on music and turn the TV off.

The consensus is that it depends on how heavy of a sleeper you are and whether or not you can fall asleep with noise in the background. It really depends. For example, my 622 is in a cabinet with a door (in the living room) and several big holes in the back for ventilation. Otherwise I could hear it over the TV unless the sound is at least moderately loud. Very annoying. Maybe my hearing it is unusual. But I doubt it. :p

Well, sorry if that offended you. But the receiver is loud when reboots, if you don't hear it while you're in your bedroom then you sleep like a rock or should have your hearing checked.

It si nott aht I was offended---I was not. It is that the comparison that was made was ridiculous and therefore not useful. My comment was simply that saying it sounds like a jet engine is ridiculous. it makes noise---less than the old 7200 but some. But gross exaggerations of the noise level do nothing to inform the OP.

As you can see from the comments some have been awakened by it and some have not. I an not sure what the decibel level is at bootup and I am not sure what to compare it to---but ajet enhine ain't it.

HDMI to DVI problem

multiple audio levels needed @ room speakers
