Forum Changes:
After talking last week with Earl Bonovich of DBSTalk.COM last week, we have decided to make a few changes to our DirecTV forum.
First we will be renaming the "Living Edge" forum to the "Cutting Edge" forum, as "Cutting Edge" is the official name of the public beta testing program from DirecTV.
In addition as of today access to the "Living Edge" forum is available only to registered members. In order to read or post in the "Cutting Edge" forum you will need to be a logged in member.
Speaking of DirecTV, we are working to have a better relationship with DirecTV. Yesterday SatelliteGuys staff met with DirecTV and will also be meeting with them again today. In addition we have a few other meetings setup.
We are working hard to make things better, and we also thank Earl Bonovich for his help and hard work, Earl is a true SatelliteGuy even if he does wear the uniform for the other team. J
Closing Thoughts:
Who would have imagined that 4 years ago today that we would be here today as America's largest and most popular Satellite Information forum!
Besides hitting our fourth birthday the last week has been an amazing week for us, take a look at the milestones we passed over the last week.
Over 1,000,000 (One Million) posts!
Over 100,000 threads!
Over 85,000 Registered Members!
Lately we have been growing at a rate of around 1,000 new members a week, and also we have been serving over 2,000,000 (Two Million) hits a day to users from around the country and around the world!
Our friendly open atmosphere here at SatelliteGuys is unmatched, and this is due to our amazing staff! This group of volunteers' works 24/7 to make sure that the time you spend here at SatelliteGuys.US is friendly and informative. It makes us proud when we know you learned something or saved money because of information or help you received here at SatelliteGuys.US!
Thank you to all our supporters for helping us keep the lights on over the past 4 years! You might see some people listed as "Supporting Founder", these are folks who donated money to us when we first started, without them SatelliteGuys would have never gotten off of the ground!
Running a site like ours takes a lot of blood sweat tears and money. We have the blood sweat and tears portion covered, the money portion is something we always need help with. Unlike other forums our size, we are an independent website, and are not owned by a major company. If you would like to help out you can become a supporting Pub Member, the cost is only $19.99 a year and it not only supports the site, but it gets rid of all the ads (except for the Gold Sponsor ads on top) plus gives you access to all kind of features and also gives you extended access to many features you currently enjoy! For more information on these features, or to become a pub member please visit http://www.satelliteguys.us/payments.php - Thank you for your support!
Speaking of our Gold Sponsors, these are the guys who pick up a good chunk of our bills and allow us to do all the special events we do. Whenever your looking for satellite or home theater equipment, please visit our Gold Sponsors! When you visit them make sure you tell them you're a SatelliteGuys.US member as many of them give discounts or have special deals for our members!
Over the last 4 years, running SatelliteGuys.US has been a labor of love for me, and while I personally have not been perfect, I have given it my all. Thanks for sticking with me over the years in the good times and the bad. I give you my promise that I will continue to do my best that I can for all SatelliteGuys members.
Thank you to the folks from MultiChannel News for recognizing my passion for the industry; I am honored to be writing for them now. While writing a column three times a week is a lot of work, I take great pride knowing that thousands of people (including those who work in the industry) take time from their busy days to read my opinions on the industry.
Thank you to the 85,000+ members out there who have joined us over the last 4 years! The entire reason we run this site is for you, hopefully we have taught you something or saved you money somewhere along the line. You guys are the reason why we run SatelliteGuys and you guys are also the reason we work everyday to make SatelliteGuys better.
Finally I would like to thank one more person, and that is my loving wife Eva. She is the one who lets me spend a lot of my free time working on SatelliteGuys issues, and has been the one to give me the ok when I have had to reach into my own pocket to pay for SatelliteGuys expenses. Without her support from the beginning, SatelliteGuys would not be here today. She also works a lot behind the scenes and has become an active partner in keeping the SatelliteGuys experience alive!
So thank you to ALL for a great first four years, we continue working hard for you as the future unfolds! What's the future hold???
Stay tuned!
Best,
Scott
