More HD Channel News

Since I've looked and didn't see a mention of this, I found this article today.

Looks like ESPN News HD, ABC Family HD, Disney HD, and Toon Disney HD are coming early next year, first to Direct TV.

Things are really starting to pick up now.

I hope my beloved Dish Network is prepared to have the systems ready to hold all of this content that dtv is seeming ready to go with. I didn't really believe dtv at first, but with news like this...it's looking more like they are the real deal.

Yes. Same here. And so much for the D* claim of "by the end of the year." They've already had at least one launch delayed (so has E*) so we'll see. There could be a loss of a satellite at launch or otherwise. Let's see if they arrive- and then how long before E* carries them also.

Good Morning all, I can greatly appreciate everyones' excitement, when learning abot "NEW" HD channels comeing in the future. I for one love my HD, and anticipate more and would love to see all channels in HD. BUT, News of channels comeing next year, to me, is hardly anything to get excited about. Mainly since, we haven't seen even the ones that were "Promised" last year. I would pefer to hear of news more relevant to the present, and not so much of the future. I gues I am more of a "here and now" type of person. Just my 2cents...

My thoughts exactly. Does this mean that there are no more HD channels this year, and what about the channels that were promised last year? RSN HD and VS HS would be nice (not all the content, but only NHL and NBA games). Dish has the capacity, I do not know what the problem is. Apparently there is no problem adding the WATER CHANNEL. What kind of BS is that?

I'm willing to bet they don't have HD source materials for most of that programming...especially the syndicated kids show stuff. And even if they do, it'll be 4:3.

I don't understand why some of you HD snobs bash HD channels that don't fit your idea of what is acceptable content....I, for one, pray for the day that I can watch Sponge-Bob Square-Pants in true High Definition !

My guess - in less than 10 years people will have forgotten about all the HD hoopla, because all channels will be in HD. Granted, there will still be a lot of old SD content out there, but most new shows are now produced in HD and as time goes on all TV production and distribution channels will be fully HD. HD and TV will become synonymous. Anyone remember how long it took to go from black and white to color? There wasn't one TV show produced in black and white after about 1968, which was about 10 years after color TVs started rolling out. We will probably start to see duplicated HD and SD channels start to disappear in about the next 5 years. By then ALL new E* and D* receivers will be HD capable, whether people make full use of the capabilities or not. Sorry, those old MPEG-2 boxes will probably be phased out at about the same time. I will miss my fee-free 508; it really is a good unit.

Now whether Dish carries all channels in full HD is another matter.

As long as the sat companies don't continue to charge for the hd channels seperately like they do now. I don't want to pay twice for the same channels in sd and hd. I think $20.00 is the limit for me and if they continue to hike the price as hd is added , then I will drop the hd pack entirely and pay the hd enabeling fee instead.

Programming preferences aside, it's an almost certainty that ALL of those will carry little to NO HD programming at their respective launches.

I'm all for more HD, but if it's another channel calling itself HD and providing non-HD and/or stretched programs, I agree with everyone else: what's the point?

I'd bet that ESPN News would be mostly HD. Wouldnt make sense to do an HD channel if they dont have their studio setup for HD. Their other studio shows on ESPN are mostly HD now, and they generally look quite nice. Higher and higher percentage of highlights are in HD too, these days. Besides...it's ESPN...you had to know they wouldnt stand pat at just TWO HD channels for long!

Well, when is HD really HD ? Depends on what your definition of HD is....
Chevrolet has a new commercial touting their new 2007 Chevrolet Silverado HD series of full size pickup trucks...my question is why do they show that commercial in SD ? I guess, that is my point.

ABC Family has some good movies here and there. The others I probably would never watch, except espn news when I'm looking for a quick update when sportscenter is not on.

But my point in posting the info was just to share it. These aren't the most exciting channels, but what excites me is that at least these stations are planning the move. So more are hopping on the bandwagon and that's what it will take to yeah, in 10 years have all the stations in HD and then we can laugh about the days we are living in now, starving for HD content .
