I have a DirectTV Dish pointed at 101, 110, and 119. I also have a Direct TV box that I bought off of Craigslist. It is not activated but works.
I verified that the everything works, but I really do not want DirectTV. I don't want to pay for it. What I really would like is NasaTV but the box says that it is not activated so it won't display it.
Does anyone have advice on how I might go about getting NasaTV legally with the equipment that I have? Or any other tips on how I could do this affordablely.

Dish Network definitely broadcasts it FTA on 119. I think DirecTV does too.

I know with Dish, you can use any receiver provided it has been activated once. Even when it loses its authorization, it still gets NASA TV.

It's streamed on the web at 1200 kbps during shuttle missions, which looks fine, but during the time in between it's only 300 kbps, which doesn't look too good.

I believe this is also the case w/D* - card/receivers that have NEVER been activated will not work on it.
