I remember back in 1987 when the Celtics beat the Lakers 148 to 114 in a game that has come to be called the Memorial Day Massacre. Scott Wedman went 11 for 11, but as Pat Riley pointed out after the game, when Wedman scored his first basket, the score was already 29 to 52.

I've seen Wedman hit eleven in a row before, but when Greg Kite goes 3 for 5, with a hookshot over Kareem, you know it isn't your day.

A more lopsided first game was won by the Celtics against the Sixers in 1982 when they won by 40 points 121 to 81.

Notice that there are no Celtic banners hanging from the Garden rafters bearing the years 1982 or 1987.

IIRC, that was known as the "Mother's Day Massacre"

Another instance this happened to the Celtics was in 1990 in Game 2 of the first round, the C's beat the Knicks in the Garden sauna by 40 something points (game time temp was in the 90's in the AC-less Boston Garden). Boston went up 2 games to none, only to see the Knicks win the series in five games (including game 5 in Boston).

The Celtics went 0-11 on threes. If they had gone 3-11 they would have won, and if they went 2-11 they would have won, since they wouldn't have had to make the desperation gambles in the closing minutes.

If the Celtics win game 2, then they will win this series in five games.

I don't think Rondo will get suspended for the bump because the way it happened was, the ref stopped abruptly and unexpectedly when Rondo was walking behind him and couldn't stop that quick.

These playoffs have taken some strange turns. I thought the Magic would get swept...shocked by Rose's injury and now the Celtics playing in poorly against a sometimes heart Hawks team.

Rondo will get suspended for game 2. But NBA referees have to start being accountable for terrible job performance.

Not disagreeing at all. NBA officials S-U-C-K, they're actually worse than NFL officials, IMO.....and thats saying something.

That said, you just can't make physical contact with the officials.

I agree with you and he should be suspended.

But David Stern buries his head when it comes to his band of Tim Donagy's. The league is starting to conform to the floppers and embellishers.

BTW, I think the other sports referees are are far superior to the NBA

Yep, Game 2 could be potentially very ugly and the Hawks could take a commanding lead back to Boston. BUT, as Salsa mentioned upthread, the heart of this talented Hawks team is always a question. I don't trust them.
