New shows on EBRU TV

Windstream sent me a free Roku when I established service at my lake house, when I moved my mom closer to us back in January. I finally got around to trying it out last week, personally don't see what the big deal is about Roku's, but I did add Ebru tv along with Epix to the Roku and it does work great for that.

Ebru TV has several of my favorite recently old shows Spooks (UK), Robin Hood (UK), Doctor Who (UK), Sea Patrol (Australia) along with Sue Thomas. My mom told me she has watched Ebru Tv quite a bit this week.

It´s an American channel with all english programming even though some are foreign shows, I wouldn´t label it as another BBC America.

Yes they have some Brit shows, Spooks (a.k.a. MI-5 in PBS), Doctor Who, and others mentioned in this thread, Sea Patrol from Australia, and Sue Thomas F.B. Eye (US/Canada) and Twice in a Lifetime (Canada), they also have some movies.

They call themselves a Family channel and I think that´s a good label for this channel.

I glanced over the list of shows they have on their site. Most of them I'm not familiar with and I only recently discovered Doctor Who (still not really sold on it yet.) and the list of shows appeared to have a British in influence so I assumed it was a BBCA clone or spinoff. In the morning I have to go work on his satellite so I'm going to add this channel to his favorites and let him decide from there. I've already added it to my favorites because I've decided I need to check out new stuff, I've been stuck in the same old rut watching all the daytime Judge This and Judge That stuff for years. Time for change. I recently ditched a bunch of morning talk shows for 3 hours of Star Trek TNG everyday on BBCA..

I finally got around to trying it out last week, personally don't see what the big deal is about Roku's, but I did add Ebru tv along with Epix to the Roku and it does work great for that.

It does sound like he will like it , EBRU also has a news broadcast, more focused on national and international news, I´d say more in the fashion of say BBC World News.

All the more reason to like it. Dad likes international news. He used to like to watch NHK but he said he's had trouble either finding it or syncing up with whatever time frame they air it.

I told him to give Doctor Who a look too. I was quite surprised some years back when I overheard my son and my dad talking over Harry Potter. My dad borrowed a giant huge Harry Potter book from my son, read in a week and was all giggled up over it. I was like HUH??? Do what?? Dad also used to like Science Fiction so I figured he MIGHT like Doctor Who. When I was there today there was a show on called Spooks. I told him I think it is some British crime drama/thriller.
He likes all those NCIS and Bones and stuff like that (I do not).. So I think he'll find some stuff on there he'll like.

I just wish BBC America was on FTA… I get it on Dish but Dad can't on his FTA..

Spooks is an FBI type show. Spooks was called MI-5 for the US showings as it follows the British Security Services Division MI-5 which is tasked with domestic Homeland Security and Intelligence in the UK, whereas James Bond is a part of MI-6 tasked with UK Foreign Security and Intelligence.

Sea Patrol follows the adventures of the fictional crew of the HMAS Hammersley in the Royal Australian Navy.
Hustle is the UK version that the US show Leverage was based upon and co starred Robert Vaughn of Man from Uncle fame.
Robin Hood of course was Robin Hood returning from the Holy Wars to rob from the rich and give to the poor.

These were all on my weekly viewing schedule when they originally aired just a few years ago.

They also seem genuinely interested in expanding their viewership and I have to admit that they've added some great programs and a wider variety of movies than before. Ebru TV is an American station, but it is owned by Samanyolu TV Group in Istanbul, Turkey (hence the advertisements for Turkish Airlines). In fact, you can find Samanyolu (the Turkish language channel) on the same transponder on Galaxy 19. What's interesting is that you have Anya (the travel guy) dubbed in English on Ebru TV, but you can see the original undubbed Turkish version of Anya on Samanyolu.

Interesting info, I enjoy watching Anya (on EBRU of course, as my turkish is limited to saying thank you ), I also watched a nice family movie last Saturday.

BTW, Tonight I also watched part of a contest show, Cake Walking - Wedding Cake edition, maybe not my cup of tea, but interesting.

BBC America (Top Gear) and Velocity (Fifth Gear) own the US broadcast rights to the shows and Hulu owns the online rights for both shows.
