NFL 2013 Season

As far as 10 years of labor peace goes,I seem to remember a player lockout 2 years ago followed by the fiasco of the referee lockout last year. It will be nice if something new comes up to be reported, but as far as the facemask drama, there is only speculation as to why certain face masks were banned because the NFL gave no reason whatsoever. Roger Goodell is in charge so he is the face behind the ban & it just goes along with other head scratching acts that he has done in the past. He looks like a prude & a horse's behind making this declaration & his earlier proclamation on celebrations being unsportsmanlike conduct.

What does being excited and celebrating for the fans have to do with being unsportsmanlike ?

Being excited and celebrating in certain ways may have nothing to do with sportsmanship depending on how you celebrate. I don't want to see a high school kid dancing in the end zone after he scores and I don't want to see a professional do it. I've never cared much for show boating in any way, sports or just life in general.

I've always thought making great plays and just outright beating another team was enough to prove you're better. Performance alone is enough to show up another player or team.

it's very hard work to be a Pro these days and you do the right thing (score) have a few seconds of joy is not allowed is just BS. gotta love the CFL...... Cosmic Fun League

It is allowed though, if you read more than the headline.

I don't mind celebrating, just hate being cocky. In the end it really doesn't matter, I just want to watch football.

There are other rules I wish they'd adopt less if not zero tolerance for before this stuff, though this is easier to get right I suppose. If you see a punch thrown for example - clear enough to throw a flag - that should be an ejection every time. Id toss in a mandatory 4 quarter suspension and loss of a game check too. Escalators in punishment for repeat offenders.

So...say you are ahead by 4 TDs with 3 minutes left... and your decides to go for it on with a 75 yard bomb..what do you think of that?

Now this is what needs to be enforced. NOT throwning a flag because a 325+ defensive tackle just ran for a touchdown on a fumble/interception and wants to celebrate with a little dance with his defensive buddies.

I'm on the fence on those types of things. Part of me thinks it's unsportsmanlike but part of me also thinks you play hard until the game is over regardless of the score. A team won't get any better by letting up when the opponent is down. I think it's made worse if the winning team still has all their starters in. If they have 2nd and 3rd string in and they still put up points then that's just too bad.

The problem with that I think is that tie breakers are based on how many points scored. Teams trying to make it to the playoffs may not have any choice but to run up the score if it helps them get into the playoffs over another team with the same won-lost record.

It's PROFESSIONAL football, both teams are getting paid. It's the defenses job to stop the offense, not the offense to stop themselves.

Gotta agree,if a team is that bad, they better rebuild quick.

i have said this for years. the players themselves have said it too.

best back up QB's
Kyle Orton - better than 5-6 teams starter
Matt Hasselbeck - better than 5-6 teams starter
Kirk Cousins - $$ waiting as a FA
Derek Anderson - wish the Browns just kept him
Luke McCown

I would include Miami's Moore as well.

Correct... Same applies to celebrations. If you don't want someone celebrating after a touchdown, "the defenses job to stop the offense....not the offense to stop themselves".

I actually agree with that. If you don't want to get beat that bad then you better find a way to stop them.

The only case where I find it unacceptable is in high school sports where there can clearly be a difference in talent. At the professional level every team should be somewhat close talent wise.
