Does anyone know where I can get an adapter that allows me to plug my null modem cable into a USB port? I would liike touse my lapop with my Fortec, and all I hae is USB. THANKS in addvance!

May have been the long way around it, but I bought both an iDotConnect USB-Serial Cable (Item #3312) and a mini gender changer from Fry's Electronics and the null modem connector from Radio Shack. Could probably have gotten everything from Radio Shack. Needless to say, everything worked just fine.

I also got a USB to Serial Adapter from Fry's Electronics and it worked with my Pansat quite well, if you do a search online for "USB to Serial Adapter" you will be able to get it for allot cheaper than in a store.

I never did get that ordered last year, and forgot what it was called :( I found one from Sadoun, so am placing order as we speak :)

OK, got it ordered from Sadoun. Can't wait! My desktop has a serial port, but I would have to unhook the receiver, take it back to the desktop and hook it up to use it. This way, I can use my laptop and not have to unhook anything. And I can use it on my SatPros also. It will be nice to do channel editing now. THANKS also to Ice for the cable!

yeah ask them first if it will work or if it needs an adaptor
didn't know if the cable listed is a null or straight
but if its straight then you can get an adapter to convert it to null from rat shack

support those Satpros

I've loaded firmware into my Satpros.
Used an old spare laptop boat anchor (P1-233mhz), just because it has a real serial port.
Later, I might go for an upgrade to a smokin' P2-266.

Once you've done some channel editing, you might want to throw a post about it to the Satpros Self-Help thread.
Might encourage others (maybe even kick-start me)

I can't remember, but the cable I have works for my Fortec and SatPros. I just needed the usb to serial adapter. I remember the day when computers had serial ports :)

Will do! I am very anxious to get my Fortec "backed up" in case I have to reset the receiver.
