Democratic National Convention contracted and paid DISH $$money$$ to be the official high-definition satellite TV-service provider and the RNC could of contracted and done the same.
Dish Named Official Satellite Provider for Democratic National Convention
The Democratic National Convention Committee Tuesday named Dish Network as the official high-definition satellite TV-service provider for the 2008 Democratic National Convention, which will be held in Denver Aug. 25 to 28.
Dish Network will bring live satellite video feeds into the convention hall from off-site locations across the country. The satellite provider will also offer uninterrupted, unedited live satellite convention coverage to its 13.8 million subscribers across country, available on Channel 211.
In addition, Dish Network's video feed will be broadcast in HD on television monitors throughout convention venues and will be made available via satellite to television stations for downlink across the country and around the world.

The SD feed is garbage, bordering on unwatchable quality, like a bad public access broadcast. I attempted to watch it last night, but the sound kept going from low to high to low that I had to switch over to the MSNBC coverage, and when that happens, it has to be bad.
