Response from E* on TBS HD

Actually, I'm sure there's more than one of me. I have my box setup to stretch the signal, but in the software of the box and the TV, the signal is already "stretched" when viewing an HD broadcast. I do have the ability to zoom-in on an HD feed, but there is no way to stretch an HD signal that is broadcasting a 4:3 SD source in 16:9 that already has the sidebars added. The source coming into the TV or the box must be 4:3 in order for it to be stretched.

I understand what you are saying about 4:3 feeds on HD channels but your opinion is not going to be appreciated. I can't understand why anyone would want to watch short fat people on TV...or people who's shoulders double in size when they are near the edge of the screen. If you are going to make the picture look like a freak show why do you care if it's digital anyway. Anyways this is not the venue for this discussion.

I'm glad E* hasn't wasted bandwidth to add TBS in not so HD. If this is going to be the trend then I think the rush to add so-called HD channels is a big scam. I can't believe people will accept providers adding more and more channels designated as "HD" and that show very little HD content. I would much rather wait for a channel that has at least primetime HD content instead of having a channel with upconverted stretched programming that dupes the average uneducated viewer into thinking they are getting HD. As far as the major league baseball package offered by D*, one would think that the playoffs would have been part of that package considering how much D* paid for the rights to air it. I think it is a worthless effort to offer a "HD" channel like TBS just to show a few playoff games in HD and nothing else. I say to E*, wait a little longer.

I'm rather upset that TBS doesn't seem to care much about its viewers and the fact that most of them would prefer a HD source instead of an SD source.

BTW, congrats Padres on the win! Here's what I found on MLB.com:

Haha, jk. I did find that pic on MLB.com... However, congrats Rockies!

TBS provides an HD source. That source is available nationally on DirecTV and regionally on many Time Warner, Comcast, Cox, Cablevision, Bright House, etc. cable systems. Dish Network seems to be just about the only provider that doesn't have an agreement to carry it.

I must admit I am not a Baseball fan, however I do love to watch the playoffs. My only dilemma is I just can't watch SD anymore.
Charlie, your claims of having the most national HD channels, well lets just say that it pissed on your box of fireworks.

RE: HD and TBS. I'm surprised that MLB is limiting its audience by only going TBS for the playoffs. Commercial time can't be as costly as if they were on ESPN or a major HD network on both SAT and CABLE, but then MLB has stopped caring about the game because they are too busy counting the receipts.

BTW, HD in 4:3 can easily be stretched with the DISH remote. I do it all the time. I use partial zoom all the time and some formats work better in zoom, especially when they appear in letterbox.

Cox Cable San Diego got TBS HD turned on a couple of hours ago. Now the Padres just have to win for there to be a point here in San Diego.

By the way, The Padres have been Exclusively on Cox Cable for more than 10 years, the last four in HD.

I've lived in San Diego pretty much all my life-except for a 9 year stretch living between LA & Orange counties. It still amazes me that not even a pair of rabbit ears will allow me to see a Padres game. I guess that's why I've never been a fan-not just because I have E*, but because I feel that a city's local team should be broadcast over the air in their local market.

Actually, the home plate ump was probably a rockie fan because he had the final outcome of the game on his hand and ruled against San Diego.

Now some of you understand how frustrating it is not to have the HD channel that you care the most. The same happens with YESHD which E* has refused to carry no matter what for the NY area. Luckily, I was able to watch the HD feed last night through Cablevision. E* seems to drop the ball on channels that matters. If I did not have cable, I would have signed up with D* just to be able to watch the playoffs in HD. E* needs to response to their customers especially when all the competition D* and C* has already responded with the deal.

I hate it when the UMPIRES end up determining the outcome of an important game...I feel for ya, man...I really wanted to see Greg Maddox and Michael Barrett play the Cubs in the playoffs!

I am not a Padres fan but I have seen so much of these bad plays by umps in the playoffs that make you sick to your stomach. Baseball need some type of vidoe review for plays like this. Remember they also blew the call about the home run.

yeah, its kind of weird that baseball has refused to even test out instant replay. Look at how many bad calls in football it has fixed..

I think instant replays are great. However, it would take away from the relationship between the Umps and the Team/Fans. Who doesn't like to see the ocassional argument. The call never changes, but if the team got the chance to review a call then we would never give a crap about the Ump. Face it, the Umps make the game.

If there were to be reviews, I would like it to be extremely limited in use. Such as only being able to use it after the 7th inning, verifying a home run, verifying if the runner *cough* touched home plate, and verifying if a runner beat the first baseman.

As far as last night's game. I feel that the Ump made the call as honest as he could. From his angle he could not have gotten a good view of the hand touching the base. Even the Padre's agreed with the Ump's decision as they couldn't tell either. Even the catcher wasn't sure.

I don't think video replay would have reversed the play that end last nights game. don't get me wrong, I don't think he touched the plate, but also don't think the video was conlusive enough to overturn the call.

Agree, and even HD picture will not help. You can't tell 100% that his hand did not slip under the the catcher foot and maybe touched the base (foot moved during the action, if it was stayed put, then it will be a different story). So it is over and it is the call only two persons will know if it was a correct call: Umpire and the player. Catcher most likely did not see it.

No Signal! Sat "X" UPSET!

More hd from Dish? Hard to tell
