Roethlisberger accussed of sexual assult...AGAIN!

Well Pac MAn was mentioned when the Ben stuff came up, but Pac Man had a HUGE list of problems with the league when Goodall suspended him.

That is very true. Pac-man had history of stupid crap....hmmm...a pattern, just like the one good ole Ben has developed. And yet, he has yet to even meet with him?

The commissioner didn't wait to meet with Jones and Vick when they had criminal investigations hanging over their heads. Every time a prominent black athlete is involved in a legal situation, it seems as if the long, lawful arm of Goodell is ready to react.

The commissioner announced Jones' season-long suspension in 2007 less than two months after he was allegedly involved in an altercation and shooting outside of a Las Vegas strip club -- which was two months before Jones was officially charged by Vegas police and a week after Goodell brought Jones into his office for one of his infamous sit-downs. Jones accepted a plea deal for the Vegas incident in November 2007, which resulted in a suspended one-year prison sentence, probation and community service.

The commissioner wasn't wrong for punishing Jones before he had his day in court. Given Jones' extensive brushes with the law and the seriousness of the Las Vegas incident, Jones' one-year suspension was entirely appropriate. There was little doubt his reckless behavior was undermining the league's credibility and its reputation.

Goodell, though, officially set a precedent with Jones. For the commissioner, the absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence.

When Goodell suspended Jones, he wrote a letter to the troubled player that stated: "Your conduct has brought embarrassment and ridicule upon yourself, your club, and the NFL, and has damaged the reputation of players throughout the league. You have put in jeopardy an otherwise promising NFL career, and have risked both your own safety and the safety of others through your off-field actions. In each of these respects, you have engaged in conduct detrimental to the NFL and failed to live up to the standards expected of NFL players. Taken as a whole, this conduct warrants significant sanction."

Roethlisberger might not have the same track record as Jones, but being accused of sexual assault twice in less than a year is an embarrassment not only to the Steelers, but to the entire NFL.

And like I said, perception smells too close to reality. AGAIN, he has yet to even meet with Mr. Ben....and he has barely said a peep.

JUST SAY.....;)

....Goddell has not even MET with Roethlisberger....

This is the final section of the story, but I HIGHLY recommend that all should read.

There is absolutely no way you can blame Goodell for this. Blame the authorities in Georgia instead for the snail's pace at which the investigation has gone. I'm sure Goodell thought the decision about charges would have been made a lot quicker than this.

When Goodell has spoken to other players in trouble in the past their initial fate was known to some degree; either they were charged with a crime or not, when he did sit down with them. While this initial investigation is still on-going, what purpose would a meeting now with the commissioner serve?? What questions could Ben answer if he still hasn't been actually charged with anything yet?? The conversation would be much different depending on whether he actually gets charged or not.

I don't know about the rest of you, but the longer this case drags out, the more it's NOT looking good for Big Jen. The big ox is in some deep doo-doo.

Bin Jen? Is that what Bubba will call him at the Georgia Diagnostics & Classification Center? ;)

Not blaming.... JUST SAYING that he has said nothing. Perception becomes reality sometimes.

at the VERY LEAST.....he is a dumming....for HIS sake, it's because he is dumb and not a rapist.

But what's taking so long on the authorities end? The fact that this case isn't closed yet is making me believe there is something more to it.

OR someone is not cooperating. I am wondering, would a "rape kit" done by the hospital confirm IF in fact rape was commited?

Just curious: Put yourself in Goodell's shoes.

At the point where the investigation is now, as commish, what would you say/do to Ben??

Remember, there's not much Ben can say until charges are brought, and I'm sure Goodell does not want to be subpoenaed as a potential witness in the investigation... ;)

From the same article:

Those are Goodell's OWN WORDS. Not mine or invented by me. 2 sexual assult cases in less than 1 year. His job is to protect the integrity of the game. THAT is what he was hired for.

....go ahead, re-read his comments.....;)

From what I've read it's just a matter of making sure everything is complete on their end before issuing charges or not. They've seen how high profile cases like the Duke lacrosse fiasco can end careers, so they're probably just dotting all their i's and crossing all their t's...

OK, then what??

What purpose would a meeting at this point serve other than to state the obvious that he is disappointed in him??

Goodell should do nothing until the investigation is completed. He's just waiting until all the facts are out, which people around here are always advocating. ;)

IMO, all a meeting would serve to do at this point is create another witness for the prosecution to call in a trial if he's lying about something.

If he's charged I am somewhat expecting an indefinite suspension, if he is not I think he'll probably miss a handful of games similar to Pacman's situation.

When was this, I thought that Goodall hasn't said anything about it yet ?

Like the other incident, all that is being debated in this case is consent. DNA, rape kits, etc, none of this is really necessary. The non-intercourse sexual contact was reportedly admitted by both parties. It's all the other details that are pretty condemning.... she was somehow injured, her friend(s) tried to go to her but were not allowed to by both the (offduty cop) bodyguard and the locked bathroom door...

Between Holmes' and Ben's troubles, Steelers fans better hope 'Dixon to Sweed' can keep the team relevant this season. The team has had nearly a dozen off the field incidents in recent memory, sweeping thugs out of the franchise and making excuses/tolerating their big names doing the same thing.
