Rumor? Eastern arc is being retired

Dish doesn't need all these fancy satellites when they are loosing customers left and right. The writing is on the wall folks, Dish is going out of business. Its going to be a slow death.
By 2030 or sooner, its over. DISH needs to use the DISH interface and guides and stream it with Sling TV pricing and packs you can add or subtract to save money. Sling TV becomes Streaming DISH TV. No need for two versions any longer.

They are scratching to save every dollar they can and the double arc system is facing upgrade costs for satellites.

I'm thinking they were counting on the Directv deal to consolidate and reduce costs and keep thing stable ,.

Now, they are putting their limited cash into the wireless business and may have decided to abandon some of their satellite market to save money.

A sad thing to watch if they continue on this path..

I am not a Dish subscriber, but I'd just like to chime in.
If I recall correctly, Dish has the SD locals for my market (Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, PA) on the Western Arc, and the HD locals on the Eastern Arc.
Will they put both feeds on WA, or remove the SD feeds on WA and have only the HD feeds there?
TYIA.

DiSH's intro of a dual-arc paradigm represented its zenith as a service provider. Charlie thought he could sidestep local servicing and that the good times would roll on endlessly.

I would expect that all SD feeds that have an HD feed have a very limited shelf life

if i was in charge of the parent company of Dish, Sling TV and Boost Mobile, i would just rebrand everything to Sling, have Boost Mobile turn in Sling Mobile, have Dish become Sling TV Dish and Sling TV becomes Sling TV Stream.

also on the main topic of the thread, if Eastern Arc is ending, then i could see those with Eastern Arc setups who can't get Western Arc setups be converted to Sling TV accounts if they can get high speed internet, and those who can't may have no choice but switch to DirecTV.

I agree, they do have a branding issue.

Can existing H3 hardware support a streaming-only business model? I'm still seriously annoyed that I can't use my J3 using Ethernet-only, so I suppose the answer is "No".

Sure it can, at least to a degree. You can now record 3 separate streamers at the same time. I have a J2 working just fine on an ethernet connection alone.

That's not many compared to 16 + 2 + 3 (if they're part of PTAT) channels in real time. I guess I hardly needed that many, so maybe.

My J3's used to do that too. But now I just get a DHCP failure and nothing happens. The Ethernet jack is literally useless unless you plug it into the 2nd Hopper Ethernet jack with bridging enabled, and then it works like it used to in the early days, i.e. on my own wired LAN. The question of the hour is, why does this capability still work on a J2?

I am guessing the DHCP failure is also how they enforce the access point on wireless Joey's. (:-(
