Rumor? Eastern arc is being retired

I just tried this on my HWS & it only allows 2 simultaneous recording streams - unfortunately, the RECORD light no longer works on stream recordings (it previously did when this feature was introduced...)
That is correct. The Hopper with Sling can record 2 streams and the Hopper 3 can record 3 streams.

I'm in the situation of a clear, beautifully open sky to the Southeast. Southwest, not so much, not without locating the reflector and LNBf in the street. So, will all those events I have on my Hopper 3 and its EHD work without a satellite signal? Or will the Hopper 3 work in Streaming-Only mode and still allow access to my archives?

I can tell you what I did when I cancelled DISH after 25 years at the beginning of 2022. I had my hopper and joeys still hooked up and my external hard drive still plugged in and my ota antenna and my usb tuner still plugged in.

My satellite channels disappeared of course in the guide except free stuff and my ota channels kept on working and my guide information for them still worked. I was able to use them and timers still worked and my dvr ability still worked for them. Even the Auto skip feature worked on my ota channels the next day for ABC /NBC and CBS after 7 days and Fox like 3 days later - just like when I was still using sat locals. My external hard drive also worked and I was able to watch anything on the drive. My joeys also still worked in the bedroom and office.

Now I have since unhooked my old hopper and joeys since I use Sling Tv and TABLO now. So I don't know if it will still work if I plugged it back in today. Also there was no streaming channels to watch in 2022, so I can't tell you if that will still work or not. I would think it would if you keep your receiver hooked up to the satellite. All the streaming channels in the 90s are free anyway. Like Sling Tv has a Freeview section of similar channels that are free and you can record them if you want to add the cloud dvr for $5.00 if you record a lot and other wise you get basic 10 hours for free, if you don't.

how long did you have it hooked up and working as described before you unhooked it all?

Since we leased the Hopper 3 and "4K" Joey, Dish will want that equipment back if we cancel. But at this point, no one from Dish has contacted us about this relocation, so I guess we will kick the can down the road and deal with it…
