SD DVR Model # and eBay

Can someone tell me what the latest standard def dvr model is and any tips before buying one on eBay to replace my non-dvr receiver

Are you meaning without contractual extension and such?

I bet you will get extended once you call in to activate that unit regardless of where or how you get it.

I just want to know what I have to do in order for it to work; can I just place my current access card in the unit

NO; your current card is married to THAT receiver unit.

You get the unit (making sure its a legit sale by all means; it comes with its own card).

Disconnect power from the current receiver.

You connect the new one up and reconnect the power, run the initial setup and tune to the preview channel.

You call DirecTV to activate that new receiver & deactivate the old one.

Make sure that it is free and clear of any charges and such with DirecTV if its used. Also make sure its not being sold as a "new subscriber unit" if its brand new in the box and cheaper than expected. Seems like much less trouble just getting one from DirecTV to me.

The latest SD DVR models are the R16 and R22. Best Buy has the R22 for $99.
