I was wondering how blackouts are determinted. Lastnight Pens had fox sports Pittsburgh sd/hd feed. On a alt channel the Pirates were on but it wasn't available for my area. I don't understand it was a home game for the Pirates. Also VS was blocked I figured that because pens were on Fox Sports Pittsburgh.

Don't know for sure, but VS could have been blacked out in the Pens and Flyers markets (Pitt and Philly have to watch on their local RSN). This happens a lot in baseball (ESPN blacked out in Boston and New York for a Monday Yankees - Red Sox game).

I don't know anything about the VS hockey contract, so the blackout last night may have been accurate or a screw-up.

Was it on any of the Alternates. There have been times when NHL, NBA and baseball have all aired in HD on various Alts.

Pirates were on a alt channel but it said it wasn't available in my area which it was a home game for pirates.
