I have a SWM system setup in my house with an HD DVR, a DVR and 4 standard receivers. Lately its been going to searching for satellite on all receivers for days at a time. Sometimes it will come back on and work perfect for a few hours and have great signal and then all the suddenly go back out again. Im not sure whats causing it, the cable is ran throught the gutter on the roof is it possible snow or ice may be interfering with the signal. When it does come on the signal is 90-100, when it goes out there are all 0's,any suggestions?

SWM is a mystery to me... like women, the infield fly rule, and why people like sushi.

I get brain-lock every time I try to figure these things out.

I realize this post is not helpful, for that I apologize.

Sounds like the new dreaded frozen SWM LNB syndrome to me. Not that we have that problem in San Antonio but I'm glad I decided to go with a SWM-8 solution.

Could be the cold, or it could also be a poorly set connector outside. Is the Power Inserter plugged directly into the wall and not a surge protector or even on a light switch? Does the situation get better when it warms up or when the sun starts shining, maybe in the evening/night its bad and daytime its fine?

Don't overlook the obvious. You say the cable is running through the rain gutter? OK fine, but if there's even the slightest pin hole in the jacket of the coax, you're going to have moisture in the cable. At those frequencies your coax might just as well be full of mercury. Let me take a guess this was maybe a self-install? (I doubt D* would be pleased hearing that one of their contractors did that)

Laying in the gutter means the coax is going to be wet on the outside at the very least. That's fine as long as the jacket of the cable is 100% intact, but it will still cause water to migrate down the vertical run where it's likely to find a connector along the way, perhaps at the ground block and find its way into the cable or into the ground block.

Probably not the problem, but I'd still wager DTV wouldn't approve of the path chosen for the coax.
