I have had a 622DVR on an HD TV in the Den for a couple years. I recently added a 722DVR on a new HDTV in the Living Room. There were a lot of recordings on the 622DVR that I wanted to watch using the 722DVR in the future. I bought an EHD and had it activated. I began moving the EHD from the 622 to the 722 and back, I got tired of doing that and decided that there had to be a better way. Bear in mind I am a non-tech 76 year old with progressive short time memory loss!
I did some rewiring that allows me to view my Den 622DVR output on my Living Room TV via the Home Distribution System and also my Living Room 722DVR output on my Den TV via the Home Distribution System. This will be satisfactory until Dish comes up with a better way. There are however, pitfalls:
1. It took a lot of effort to rewire my system, however, I am retired and always trying to keep mentally and physically busy.
2. Most of you know the Home Distribution system is not HD.
3. You will need the TV1 remotes from both DVRs as well as the manufacturer's remote for the TV you are watching because the TV you are watching will be tuned to the TV1 modulated channel.
4. I can't remember any more but there must be. I, for one, get confused deciding which remote to use at what time!
I will attempt to explain (I hope it will be clear).
First of all I have an OTA roof antenna, its coax is split into coax A and coax B.
Coax A goes to another splitter. Coax A1 from that splitter goes to the OTA of the Den 622 and coax A2 goes to the input of a reverse splitter and then to the Antenna input of the Den TV, the other input (coax D) of the reverse splitter comes from the Home Distribution System of the 722.
Coax B goes to another splitter. Coax B1 from that splitter goes to the OTA of the Living Room 722 and coax B2 goes to the input of a reverse splitter and then to the Antenna input of the Den TV, the other input (coax C) of the reverse splitter comes from the Home Distribution System of the 622.
Simply put, OTA is fed to each DVR and both TV Antenna Inputs. The Home Distribution System output of each DVR also goes to the opposites TV antenna.
Both of my DVRs are in single mode as there are only 2 of us using the TV's and we will be watching at the same time during this procedure. At this point I am too confused to figure out Dual mode but I am confident it can be done wired this way but utilizing remotes set up as TV2 using the TV2 modulated channel.
If someone is really serious about the wiring I will see if I can post it (if I can figure out how to post it).
