...it sounds like these are the bottom of the barrel Voom channels! Maybe we should voice our dislike of these and ask for what we would like to see by emailing Dish, worked before! Just my two cents!!

Not exactly the bottom of the barrel. Let's see:
KungFu and WorldSport were among ten most popular in our polls.
I personally don't care about Treasure - former Auction (might be interesting for some).
GamePlay is something new - no idea.
But I am really surprised not to see WorldCinema on the list. This was one of the best channels!

It would be definitely too early to start any panic just based on this list, but I certainly see nothing wrong in letting VOOM and Dish know what we want or don't want to see!

My take on this is that Dish, being part owner of Voom, has decided to make Voom only 15 channels, so in other words Voom themselves are only running/broadcasting 15 channels

This is most certainly the case

those 15 at 1920x1080i True HDTV are plenty enough for me and the content they offer, heck I would be happy with the 10 we have

I don't think there will ever be more than 15 Vooms at this point in time and I think this is a good idea as 21 is just too many

World Cinema and Kung Fu are already mixed in daily on GuyTV and Majestic and shortly in the future when I can watch those Kurosawa's in 1920x1080i on GuyTV I will be pleased more than plenty

Lets start a countdown to all 15 Voom in 1920x1080i HD , I have been waiting for this for over 8 months now: , there are just so many good movies on GuyTV/Majestic and whatever other Movie channels are in store

If you want to email and complain, DO NOT COMPLAIN TO DISH, send complaints to Voom

Kind of off the subject but Gary do you see any difference between the HBO and SHowtime HD channels that are on 148 compared to the ones on 110. I know the ones on 148 have higher bit rates but just wanted your opinion on this.

there is a difference, Yes a big one concerning one thing and that is Pixelization

The 148's have enough higher bitrate that when the action picks up(a movie on HBO like "Torque") the screen doesn't pixelize nearly as bad and sometimes not at all compared to 110

Showtime on 110 is almost a joke, Dish needs to straighten their act up on that one, it's bitrate is super low and the sreams are filled with Errors

What does this uplink report mean as far as MPEG2 vs. MPEG4 ? Are the new VOOM channels and ESPN2HD still uplinked in MPEG2 ?

I can see them putting ESPN2 up as mpeg2 and the new Vooms as mpeg4. That way there wouldn't be a huge push to ship out the new receivers (because of the larger demand for ESPN2 than Voom), but they would still have some mpeg 4 content out there to convince some to make the switch.

I can see them putting ESPN2 up as mpeg2 and the new Vooms as mpeg4. That way there wouldn't be a huge push to ship out the new receivers (because of the larger demand for ESPN2 than Voom), but they would still have some mpeg 4 content out there to convince some to make the switch.

There will be enough demand for new machines as early adopters get ready for future adds (HD LILs, etc.).

IF they put a must have channel on Mpeg4, they will create a stampede that they have no chance of fulfilling (take a look at the XBox360 supply fiasco for the worst case scenario). It is in their best interest to take it slow until they get the yields up to a satisfactory level.....

Both E* and V* promised to bring us the rest of VOOM so how can they keep their promise if nobody can watch them? The only plan that makes good business sense is for E* to roll-out MPEG-4 HD LIL a few cities at a time - just like D*. Get HD LIL in the top 30-40 markets during 2006/early 2007 and then worry about the rest.

West coast HD locals out of LA won't be available to subs until January. Theres a good CHANCE they will be transmitted from 129. They are TESTING at 129 right now.

Voom test channels are still mpeg2 for what its worth.

Espn2hd is still only on 129.

Everyone put those your hopes away until next wednesday


Edit: Actually, a bit of "new" news... there is a TP on 61.5 with the Kung-FuHD channel, which has 2 other video streams on the same transponder. It appears they are testing 3 channels on one 8PSK TP. All three are at 1280i though. Hopefully that will change
