RE: [VOOM] THE LANDLINE MISTAKE
Landline service dying??? LOL
I don't mean to offend, but I lived in Silicon Valley(arguably the tech
capital of the world) for better than 25 years. Only recently have the
broadband internet offerings gotten to what I would consider a reasonable
level and wireless service here is sometimes a total joke. Highly doubt they
will be displacing the Bells anytime soon as they have their own network and
customer service issues.
Do you use wireless exclusively for all things at your home including Net
access? Did you see the earlier post suggesting a VOIP service like Vonage?
I recently signed on with them and so far have been happy.
In order to release next gen hardware with features like PPV and VOD
available directly from your remote will require some form of landline
connection. Wireless is still too immature for anyone to seriously get
behind it and the number of people who have completely given up landlines
for all home use is still very much a minority, IMO. You might think DISH is
doing you a favor by not requiring it today, but I think it's more an issue
of their hardware being dated. Look for next gen stuff to make it more of a
necessity to have that phone connection.
