I know absolutely nothing about FTA, but as a ham it sounds like fun.
I recently got a Video plus VP 1000, and a RCA DSS 20 inch dish with a single lnb.
Is this equipment good for any recieving activity, ham, fta, weather sats, any thing?

Not sure about the receiver you have but here is what you can get with an 18" dish!

You really need a 30" dish for most FTA, I think you would enjoy the hobby its very much like the radio hobby

Welcome to Satguys.us

If you check around you will notice that quite a few of us are hams (my handle is kc5frr), This is a good hobby to get into esp if you like shortwave dx'ing. Unfortunatly you will need to get a bigger dish to get much of anything (esp just starting out).

Lists of what you can get can by found at www.lyngsat.com, another link that I like to use is ftalist.com (its a bit easier to view).
