Which Star Wars Movie Will You Watch First?

I am thinking of watching them in "order" - 1-6 just to see how it all plays out. But, I probably will just watch the empire strikes back since it is my favorite and put off the watch it in order until another time.

Not sure when I will get to as I have all 6 on a EHDD from when HBO had them in 1920 x 1080i from 148 (dish) OAR ... I canceled my preorder.

In order for many of us is 4,5,6,1,2,3. The way the poll is going it is 40 percent for episode 1 and 40 percent for episode 4 (4 and the way the first came out are the same thing).

Watched 4. Blockbuster has them for rent. I had a free coupon. To be honest it looks the same as the DVD.

I always start a story from the beginning when I have the whole collection. Makes no sense to me to skip around. Plus I will be doing the Star Wars Marathon this weekend. I watch once, then a second time with one of the narratives on. The new collection 1-6 has 9 Disks with extras. A bargain on Amazon for $79.95 if you love Star Wars.

I had the complete collection in VHS and gave them away when DVD's were released. Now that BluRay is out I will be giving away the complete collection in DVD. The Blu Ray PQ and sound track is amazing.

You know what, I am not certain. I think I bought it for my kid, but I really didn't like it, and I don't consider it part of the "canon."

I'll still keep the DVD set as it can be used in the portable DVD player in the car. Not that he watches it much anymore, but always good to be prepared for road trips.

I know the prequel is supposed to be "the beginning," but for me the beginning was in 1977, so I'll view them chronologically, as they were made.

There is no real beginning, just a starting point in time. To follow the story the sequence they were written is to follow the production of Star Wars, not the story itself. Nothing wrong with that, just that you should recognize that fact that you are watching the chronology of George Lucas. I prefer to watch Star Wars.

Episodes 1-6 have many gaps. Real Star Wars fans know this weakness in his writing and this is why there are additional stories to fill in those gaps. As long as the writing is engaging and entertaining for me, I'll watch it. After all it IS still just fiction so that is what matters, entertaining and engaging. If you found clone wars not part of the canon then maybe it is what it is for you Kind of like the gnostic gospels are to religious folk who recognize the Bible as the word of God. Scientists recognize those writings as part of history told by another writer.

From what I understand the Star Wars epic story was designed around Flash Gordon to be in 12 episodes but was later organized into 9 or a trilogy made up of 3 movies per episode. The best explanation I have heard as to why he started the the middle Trilogy, episode 4 is because he recognized that the beginning offered audience little excitement as it was mostly about the development of the society explanation and the Skywalker family, the Jedi etc. So he started with the middle trilogy hoping the increased action would spark the theater audience. History tells us he made a correct decision. By the time he got to episode 6 he saw some flaws in his story and decided to end the epic with 6 by combining the remaining 3 episodes 7-9 into 6. I won't state specifics here as it would constitute a spoiler. Clone Wars was a cheap animation production that filled in the story alluded to in Episode 2 bridging the gap to Episode 3. Lucas could have begun with Clone Wars in 3, moved through it quickly and then into his Episode 3. Disappointing to me he didn't do that. I would like to see more of the story, those missing years made into more low budget shorts and for Lucas to continue the story beyond where he ended in 6.

It was supposed to be more episodes, pretty sure of that.

Yes, watching the production of star wars and the chronology of Lucas. Of course, like many I felt that he never truly managed to find the magic of the original trilogy in his CGI enhanced prequel. Oh, its ok, but not quite magical for me. Some of that comes from the fact that I was 9 when the first film came out.

I just didn't care for the Clone War animated stuff. Didn't appeal.

The story after Return of the Jedi has been developed in many many books authorized by Lucas. I have a few of them, but did not find them that compelling.

I am just about done with the original film. PQ and Audio is excellent. Apparently my son says we are watching the Spoofs documentary when this is done. 90 minutes of it.
