Who else thinks the $199 upgrade fee is stupid?

I called charter to see if they could upgrade me from the 60 Mbps to the 100 Mbps internet service, they said they charge a one time fee of $199 then the monthly cost would go up to $110...wow, you kidding me?

Even AT&T is offering more affordable prices on their faster speeds, whats with charter?

The upgrade fee is a total bogus because my modem can support up to 600mbps and the techs that came to install my internet told me everything outside looked good so they wouldn't have to touch anything...

Currently in my area AT&T offers only up to 24Mbps, but I hope they soon start upgrading to 50-75mbps so I can switch and bundle it with my TV & Wireless service.
Charter ideally is rock solid and no caps, but this is ridiculous that they are allowed to get away with such crap.

Not really, upload speed sucks and that's what I need the most since I upload stuff to web servers and game servers and 3-4 Mbps upload just doesn't do enough, I believe the 100mbps service has 10 up which is obviously much better.

I switched from TWC pricing to SPP on March 14, the day it became available here. I was told I'd be charged the $199 upgrade fee if I wanted Ultra Internet and I agreed. Today I received my second bill under SPP and I still have not been charged the upgrade fee so far.

Since overall, Spectrum's rates are a lot fairer in my opinion then TWC, I don't mind the $200 one time charge, if that means better pricing month to month.

I think I irritated the tech when I asked for him to install my own modem. Eve though it's free, I wanted my own modem because it's a vacation home. If I decide to shut off the internet next November I didn't want to have to return the modem.

Indeed, I use my own modem too, theirs is always worn out, and they break often, so I bought my own.

Last time I had their modem it locked down to the first MAC address it was connected too.

I got the all in 1 deal this time. Usually I prefer to go with a 32 channel modem and the biggest abs baddest router I can find

I think Charter wants to standardize eventually. In former TWC areas it's either 60/5 for $65 or 100/10 for $105 in non-Maxx areas or 100/10 for $65 or 300/20 for $105 in Maxx areas. I believe the entire Brighthouse footprint had Maxx like speeds so former BHN areas are 100/10 for $65 or 300/20 for $105 as well. Here's the thing, if I'm not mistaken Brighthouse's Lightning 300 tier which was 300/20, was insanely priced. I wanna say somewhere to the tune of $200/month. Moving over to SPP at 300 Mbps now being $105, even after the $200 fee after two months of service you're a head of the game.

I live in a non-Maxx Legacy Time Warner market and pay $105 for 100/10, minus the $11 bundling discount so my internet portion of my bill is $94.

I don't know about Legacy Charter systems, but from what you say, it doesn't sound like anything is standardized. Under SPP, it doesn't matter if you were a BHN customer in Orlando, Time Warner customer in NYC or Time Warner customer in Dallas, TV Silver is $85, TV Gold is $105, DVR service is $20 for up to 4 boxes, Standard phone service is $30, International Phone service is $35, HBO is $15. There may be some small differences in pricing but for the most part all of the core services should be the same.

Don't know when it will happen but a Charter Spectrum repair technican told me that Charter Spectrum Cable Internet is gradually going to give their subscriber's a courtesy upgrade in the near future from 60MB to 100MB.

In our area Charter Spectrum HD cable Select is $60.,then Silver is $80 and Gold is $100.
With the Silver package you also get more HD channels that the Select package + the HBO/Cinemax/Showtime channels too.
The Gold package gets more HD channels than the Silver package + the Movie Channel/Starz/Starz Encore/Epix channels too.

If you mean was our cable company Charter before and then became Charter Spectrum cable then the answer is Yes.

The ironic thing about cable in our area we are considered a non-residental area,more like a rural area
but because of a fluke years ago we had cable run in our area for free because another neighbor knew
someone at the cable company and got it.
But we have had Falcon,Cox and then Charter but because of where we live it was nothing great only
standard definition channels,no internet or phone.
But now with this merger we can get all the goodies on cable with Charter Spectrum,so we are living
the dream,I never thought I would live to see all the stuff we have available now.

Glad to hear you are getting all the goodies now, its nice to have good reliable internet + TV and all the good stuff that comes with it, I just wished Charter would offer a better DVR soon, I know the "World Box" is being tested by few customers here and there, but they really need to start upgrading their equipment fast because they are 2 decades behind other providers.

Yes I hear you on the better DVR,I don't know about other cable areas but in our area the cable company was just existing which really made it a poor excuse for a cable company.Before when we were just Charter all they offered in our area was 89 standard definition channels,but now with Charter Spectrum the channel list is improving with alot of HD channels I actually never knew was in HD and it's going to take some time for Charter Spectrum to bring us into the 21st century,but we will get there.

Legacy Charter, as in your area has always been Charter and is not a former Time Warner or Brighthouse market. If your area was something else other than TWC or BHN, a year ago, your still considered Legacy Charter. Spectrum isn't a company, it's a just a branding for a suite of services. No different the Comcast Xfinity, Verzion Fios, AT&T U-Verse or Microsoft Office. Charter started branding their services as Spectrum 3 or 4 years ago when they made upgrades to their system, started to remove analog from CATV and offered faster starting internet speeds.
