YouTubeTv and CBS/Paramount

Regarless of platform, the game is the same...
One of the many reasons why Traditional Pay Live TV is dying.

I pay direct to Paramount, have no fear of losing a channel and content.

Plus the fact that it is less expensive, a lot more content and better video and sound quality.

This is about You Tube TV ... Not Traditional TV.

Sadly as noted, it happens to All platforms.

Fwiw, Paramount Plus and the rest also go up when ever they decide the time is right.

Correct, and from my perspective, that puts more control in my hands. If I don't like the price increase, I can cancel just Paramount+. If CBS decides they don't want to make a deal with YTTV, and I don't like it, I have to switch to another linear TV platform which may or may not have all the channels I want, won't have my recordings, etc. The choice of whether I get CBS channels lies with third parties and is not mine.

Yep because so few companies control all the market....they can strangle YTTV anytime they want or any other mixed platform....if you had 30 companies making the content tbere would be competition....

While I agree with what your saying here ...

Google (YTTV owner) is a Massively Huge company with plenty of pull.

They are not at the mercy of the market, they SET the Market.

I wrote Traditional Pay Live TV, not Cable/Satellite TV.

YTTV is the same as the others, just a different delivery system.

Correct, but in today's world, we have options like Paramount+.

It has not been that long where, if we wanted entertainment via Television, we were stuck with either satellite or cable tv.

Now we have many options, which is one of the reasons why Live TV is dying, slowly, but still dying.
Fwiw, Paramount Plus and the rest also go up when ever they decide the time is right.
Everything goes up, but streaming is going up less than Cable and Satellite, so the difference in pricing is growing.

For example, most of the streaming services had 2 increases in 2 years, DirecTV, Comcast and Charter had 3 in that same time period, for an average of $20 total for each service.

But, the reason I find the streaming services better, the vast majority of content from paid Live TV, the streaming exclusives, better video/sound quality and a much reduced pricing.

Now that streaming services are adding Live Feeds/Content, it makes that decision to leave paid Live Tv a lot easier, for those on the fence.

All the guys that do more than 1 network are that way.

If All I ever watched was 1 network, I'd be in Great shape, but most people don't watch just 1.
I get the content from all the networks, most Live or On Demand if I wish.

I have my local CBS on Paramount+ which is owned by Gray Media so I suppose at some point they could be asking for more money from Paramount+ and could end up in a dispute.

I have read the affiliate agreement prevents that.

So 3rd party owned locals signed a lifetime contract with Paramount+?
I am sure the updated terms were forced on the station owners if they want to keep their CBS affiliation. Given the live streams include un-skippable ads in their DMA, along with detailed analytics about who is watching and what is watched, they didn't think too long about it.

If they wish to be an affiliate……….yes.

They can choose to not renew the agreement when the contract expires.

YTTV is traditional tv delivered via internet streaming. It's the same as Directv stream, Sling TV, etc. The content delivery mechanism just means its regulated differently (which, I hear the legacy companies are trying to sue to change)
Google (YTTV owner) is a Massively Huge company with plenty of pull.
Size of company has nothing to do with pull. YTTV subscriber base and per sub fees is the negotiating platform. In fact, the size of Google works AGAINST them in these negotiations as the content provider can just be like "well you're a big company, you can just swallow smaller profits if you don't want to pass the cost on to the consumer. that's your problem not ours (Paramount's)"
