I've used Dishpointer Pro for years to find a hole in the trees that allows me to get DirecTV on my dish at an RV site. But now, Dishpointer Pro shows "not licensed" on my Android phone, and the app is no
longer available on Google Play. I really just need the app for AR display of the satellites to find the hole in the trees. I don't mind paying for an app, but not the $14.95 a week that some of the
dish finder apps are charging.

Any suggestions as to a reliable app for this purpose?

The Winegard Signal Finder app does both satellite and OTA locations. The satellite function includes an AR display similar to DishPointer Pro. I used both with equal results during my fulltiming days until we went all streaming. Oh, and the app is free!

Thanks for posting about the Winegard app; it looks excellent. But, google play for android says it's not available for for my android phone.
As long as DishPointer is still working, I'd keep on using it. About the only thing that changes are the satellite listings from time to time. The current Dish and Directv locations rarely change, so that shouldn't be a problem. The current locations have been the same for years, and when 77 and 129 were dropped, it was a simple matter to deselect them in the satellite listings so they no longer showed in the AR view.

how old is your phone/what version of android is it running? Could that be why Dishpointer doesn't show up in the app store anymore in addition to Winegard not installing?

The Android Dishpointer Pro app has been obsolete for years. It was built for a much older version of Android at that time. It's not supported anymore, so it won't run on newer Android, and you can't contact the owner.

However, you CAN use the online version with your laptop: DishPointer - Align your satellite dish

Thanks for the info, Mike. I run DishPointer on an older spare phone, so I wasn't aware of the Android version issue.

Yeah, the deal is that the Dishpointer Pro app is not working on my android (ver 14) phone. I do use the Dishpointer.com site to get coordinates and elevations, however. The reason I'm looking for a replacement phone app is that we often camp in heavily treed areas; an "AR" view of the locations of the necessary satellites superimposed on the sky helps me find a hole in the foliage to get a signal.

The Winegard app works ok on my Samsung A51 with version 13, so I wonder what they changed in 14 that Winegard hasn't caught up with.

It'll still run on your old phone, IF you still have it, and if it hasn't had the latest Android update.
