G18 tp power reduction

Today I see pixelating on tp 11800 V 26657...Q<=30 The other Equity tp>55:up

Anyone else experiencing reduction in signal quality on that tp?

Yup, I noticed that tonight -- it was just on the "watchable" threshold for me -- around 42-48% The other one was much better.

Noticed the same thing (lower than usual signal) on 11800, although it was still very lockable on my 1M Channel Master. This happens from time to time, the problem will correct itself soon.

Them? 2.4m, maybe (although it's not uncommon to see the local WUMN go south during a thunderstorm)

11800 is a little low here...67-69
11720 is around 74

as noted above, it will correct itself soon

Same problem here. around 42 to 47 on Winegard 2076 and Merc II. It seems to me this happens alot on this Satelllite. It has always corrected itself.

Low signal 123w Ku Transponder 11800

This weekend, I have 0-29 quality signal on my Fortec Dynamic at transponder 11800. is it likely that Little Rock having bad weather would cause that?..The other transponders seem fine..Also..Is it possible to swing the dish around by just loosening the top screw of the dish on the pole and not have it move up and down?..I'd like to look at some other satellites if possible..and ultimately re tweak the at the 123 w satellite..

The Equity G-18 feeds always fall apart when it storms by there uplink. Don't worry about it once the weather clears up they will be back.

If you adjust the azimuth only on the dish you will not get any other birds, elevation needs to be aligned too.

Hope G18 do not give us more surprises... I like the Equity programming, best if came with strong signal. But its free...we must accept it as is....

Hey everyone, still kind of a newbie here, been browsing and researching a while, and finally got my first ku dish up about 1 hour after dark. My current setup finally has something besides NASA but it does figure that the first ku bird I pull in (G18) is on low power. I just got done peaking the dish as best as I could, did a blind scan, and started watching a few channels, I noticed a lot of pixelation as well. However, I am having my doubts as to if I am on the right bird, you see as I was flipping around through the channels I found one that was d121 and it had a banner that said "congradulations you have a superdish pointed at 121 wl"... but I jotted down the channels and most of them look like they are right (meaning from 123) but that D121 is from 121 12074 V 20000 9905. I was curious as well if it is usual to have video feeds with duplicates that have no audio and different call letters/ ids? As I said I am a newb to FTA.

The stations that I got on my blind scan are:KBTZ, WNYI, KKTU, KBI-AR, KMMF, UNIV-ARK, CHANNEL-8, KEYU, KAMT,WNGS, 3CTV, KBS, SNG..... Not all the channels that I found but I am just trying to find out if it was because the signal str is down, or if I am getting noise from an adjacent sat. I am confused...

BTW my setup is a Primestar 75e, with the original LNB (with seperate V and H outputs) into a RCA 3x4 Multiswitch (V to 12/13V and H to 17/18V) to Chieta diseq switch LNB1 input, to a Neusat sp6000 regular, I am using the Standard LNB setting, 10750, and LNB power ON, diseq 1. I tuned the setup at the dish using a dual meter sat finder and the reciever for verification. Thanks in advance for any help.

Equity always has problems with KU as far back as I can remember. 11720 used to be the weaker transponder on G10-R now its the other way around. I learned to live with it. I have a 84 cm dish on G-18 and it works okay for the most part. The only way to insure more stable reception during adverse weather and transponder power reduction is to put up a bigger dish maybe a 1.6 meter or so with lots of headroom.

Im glad RTN moved to AMC-9. I have my 90cm Primestar on that. It seems more rock solid in bad weather then I have with my 84cm ADTH on G-18. Bigger is always better.

When the weather gets really bad and messes with KU I switch to my 3.8 meter (12 foot) C band monster and watch C band. NEVER any issues with the gain I have with that. C band don't have rain fade like KU either.

I've always found the 11720 vs 11800 issues interesting. As you say, it used to be 11720 that people complained about, and it affected me on a few occasions too. However each time I'd read posts where people were saying that the "power" on either of these two transponders is down, I've run a spectrum of the sat, and in almost every case (one exception I can remember), the relative signal levels (peak to average valley) has always been very close. And that is the situation today.
Back when it was 11720 that was the problem transponder, I had concluded that the problem was not the signal level, but instead interferrence from an 11724/20000 transponder on the adjacent Echo-9 sat. I could see traces of the signal from that transponder in the G10r spectrum, and visa-versa. Echo-9 always seemed stronger, so I assumed that it was overwhelming the 11720 transponder.
Anyway, I don't know if people are still having problems with this transponder or not, but as I said, the relative signals again seem very similar. When I tuned in the two transponders, the signal level on a couple of my receivers was also very similar, but the quality of the 11800 was significantly lower, which again made me think interferrence.
So I looked at the spectrum of Echo-9 and AMC-21, expecting to see some strong peak around 11800 with a similar SR value. However this time I didn't find anything. About the only thing I noticed is that the overall noise floor seems to be MUCH higher over on AMC21 for me, possibly because I'm getting a lot of ground/tree noise from that sat. But I didn't see anything that would interfere with the 11800 transponder. And the spectrum of G18 shows both transponders to be quite clean.
So I am at a loss as to what could be causing this, because I really don't believe that it is a difference in the actual signal level of the transponders. Something is causing the quality level to suffer on the one transponder. The only thing I can think of is interferrence from sats even further separated, such as Anik-F3. This is possible via side-lobes. I have seen this happen at times. One time I was actually able to lock a transponder from a sat either 4 or 6 (I can't remember which) degrees away, at the same time I was locking transponders on the sat I was aimed at. Anyway, this doesn't seem very likely in this case, but it's the only thing that makes sense to me, unless the uplink site is just putting out a strong but dirty signal for some reason, so that there is noise in the signal.
Anyway, it's confusing.

you are on the right satellite. That transponder on 121 is VERY strong and even on my properly peaked dish at 123W I still get that transpodner (12104 V 20000) at low signal quality...same when I scan 125W I get the transponder that has KBS World (12078 V) which is on 123 on a scan.

Thanks Iceberg, I was starting to think I would have to go back out there and re-align... again. I also got a couple of "Dish Network Business Solutions" channels that just show the DN logo and dont have any audio (11899V and 11972H) I guess that I will have to look into weeding out the lame channels lie that. I do like Retro Jams, but its like I have two versions, one that is automatically being picked up as Retro Jams that has no audio but a great picture, and , and another WNYI that has the same programming but actually has the audio. Is this what to expect with G18?

The actual RetorJams channel (logs as RetroJams) is AC-3 audio so you need an external audio decoder

the one that logs WNYI is the regualr audio version

also for others, if you scan KMCC (3rd channel in 11720 mux) is gone...Coolsat 5000 removed it on rescan...been black for a while
