HBO/Cinemax Takedown

I think HBO is shooting themselves in the foot. While some people will switch to Direct or some other means to get HBO I think the longer people go without it more and more of them will decide they like having a lower bill and there was not a lot worth watching on it anyway and just cancel it when it does come back as they can live without it.

I doubt if AT&T is worrying about it. They win if people go out and buy HBO GO and they also win if people drop Dish and get DTV, Dtv Go, or Uverse instead. They give HBO/Cinemax free for three months for all new customers, which is also a benefit. Contrary to what you read here, Dish isn't better than DirecTV. It is about a tie at best. I think DTV has better sports and programming, but it is close. DTV will haggle with you all day if you try to cancel, and they gave me $300 as a new tv/internet customer. I think this is a death match for the two companies and AT&T has the edge. They get the sub one at a time for $14.99. This is just to squeeze Dish out of getting HBO. Well, HBO will lose subs as everyone will not be moving over to Direct.

Everyone does not have high speed or they are not interested in streaming the service. I have friends that had HBO in the everything pack, and they are not interested in switching to Direct, so they do without HBO. They have high speed, but it is not an interest to them streaming the channel.

Only the non-movie offerings from HBO can make them attractive and many thought they were worth $10, but not $15 since, with streaming, you can spend your $15 there.

I will probably buy (somewhere) when GoT or Westworld comes back. It's called Get Shorty and it's very much in the Breaking Bad / Better Call Saul vein. VERY adult (nudity, violence etc.) but also very funny with clever writing. Stars Ray Romano, Chris O'Dowd and Sean Bridgers (with cameos by Alan Arkin, Peter Bogdanovich and Heather Graham).

Dish On Demand has it and it is highly recommended. (again Adults only)

After E* removed the $10 HBO deal, I already went & called Comcast & they gave it to me for FREE for 3 months. I love now being able to watch it on my Tivo with QuickPlay, since the majority of shows I watch on HBO are the talk/weekly specials & I can now watch them in 1/3 LESS time than before. I'll probably leave it on after the 3 months is up, since Comcast charges $15 as well, so no savings by going to streaming direct to HBO...& you still get the same on-demand access thru Comcast.
