On Wednesday, the Federal Communications Commission will hold its auction for Multichannel Video Distribution and Data Service (MVDDS), the controversial wireless technology that will share spectrum with satellite TV services.
Some of the bigger names on the list of auction participants include MDS, which has been pushing MVDDS issues at the FCC; Capitol Broadcasting; Satellite Receivers Ltd.; and South.com, minority-owned by EchoStar. Others are Bruce E. Fox, C&W Enterprises, Cass Cable TV, DTV Norwich, Edward Shergalis, Hotwire Communications, MVD Number 53 Partners, Paul O'Dell, Story Communications, and WCS Communications.
As expected, Northpoint Technology is not on the list. Northpoint has been another company aggressively pushing MVDDS issues in Washington, D.C., and has challenged the legality of the auction in court.
Satellite interests have been watching MVDDS closely. They are worried the spectrum-sharing wireless technology will interfere with satellite TV signals.
