One store already selling Hoppers

When DishDepot had the info on their website, they indicated they would have a trade-in program for receivers bought from them. Details on trade-in values TBA.

I know, Mark said they would post it formally once the 15th arrived. I was just seeing if the DISH store would be doing something similar.

I still say this is just plain dumb.. I own my 722. And I want a Hopper... Actually I want two Hoppers.. And Zero Joeys.. Not looking forward to my 722 becoming a doorstop.

It does suck but Dish has their reasons. No sense in beating a dead horse about it now. Dish seems to be fully aware that we here and retailers are not happy about it. Basically all we can do is wait and see how it works for Dish. If they don't get the amount of people getting the Hopper system that they hoped then maybe they'll make some changes.

This is how Dish works this time of year. They come out with new promotions/prices in February. They see how well it gets received by retailers and the public. What ever changes need to be made they announce at Team Summit. Everyone gets all excited and pumped to sell Dish again. It's actually a brilliant strategy.

If Team Summit comes and goes and you don't see any changes then I can see everyone getting really upset.

I've never leased a receiver in my life. If I decide to jump with the hopper, I'll definitely buy.
Obviously thats your choice but.... Just be cause thats been your style forever doesnt mean yiu cant change. Change can be good!

Purchasing just seems like a waste of money to me. Just my opinion, please dont get offended.

So does paying $200 for somebody else's receiver! Yeah, yeah, now everybody is going to trot out the car lease analogy. I prefer the smartphone analogy. If I pay for a phone, I expect to own it outright. Just because car dealers are all slime devils, does not mean CE manufacturers have to be just the same.

I'd rather use their money than mine....that said ownership for some is a better investment in the long run, dealers choice...

Oh, I'm not offended. I like owning my stuff, and no contracts. I've never had a problem selling receivers after I'm through with them. I do understand the argument for leasing though, and it would be nice if E* dropped the fees for owned equipment...maybe when pigs fly. :D

You have a choice: Continue to use your ViP722, or sell it. No sense complaining.

Actually, I guess there is a third, long shot: Hold on to it and hope Dish changes policy. I'd rather buy lottery tickets. If Dish changes the "no mixed Hopper/ViP setups," it'll possibly be for just the ViP21 series.

They really should be allowed to sell them now as there is no way for it to get to the buyer before tomorrow.

Other than the fact that they are not suppose to be available for sale until tomorrow. The date has to be set somewhere. I mean, if today was the release day should they have been able to sell them yesterday? What's the point of having a lauch date if you just going to let others sell it earlier.

Same as why your birthday isn't a couple of days earlier...the day is the day.

Does it make any difference if they are sold ahead? They cannot be activated. I don't see the problem. Weren't Dish Depot and Solid Signal just taking orders and not shipping until today or Thursday? I don't see that as any different from you scheduling installs ahead of tomorrow?

Very different, scheduling a Hopper/Joey install prior to the 15th is a tentative action. Completion of the install is dependant on whether the customer qualifies (on the 15th) for new service or an upgrade. Unlike selling equipment before the official roll out date, a retailer has really done nothing but reserve an install date pending promotional approval of that customer on the 15th.
