Picked up a GTMedia GTX Combo receiver from Ebay for $135 + tax. The unit is built on the Android platform and features a satellite tuner and a separate OTA tuner.

First off: the OTA tuner scans in VHF frequencies, but won't scan in UHF for some reason. Not sure why, it is possible we are doing something wrong. We were able to tune all VHF signals with no issues. PSIP guide data populates in the EPG.

Satellite tuner is as sensitive (or slightly more sensitive) as the GTMedia V9, however it took a long time to lock WPR and would not scan in WPR channels.

The big selling point for this receiver is its purported ability to natively decode and display 4:2:2 feeds, which it does. HOWEVER, depending on the signal modulation, the output quality varies. For instance, a DVB-S2 h264 4:2:2 signal plays just fine with no buffering or breakups, but a DVB-S2 HEVC 32APSK 4:2:2 feed displays some stuttering and drop-out's. The box really struggled with the ABC DVB-S2X feeds.

I highly recommend disabling any Android bloatware that comes with the box including Youtube and Netflix, as it slows down performance.

The menus take some getting used to and you will need to make adjustments in order to display channel lists the way you're used to.

I have tested streaming capability and can confirm it works with the iPhone GTShare app. I have not yet tried streaming from M3U files on my computer, although streaming to PC should work well since the GTX has a gig ethernet port and dual band WIFI.

The box has the usual occasional GTMedia hardware issues where it will lock up and you need to reboot.

Overall, it is exciting to experience a raw 4:2:2 video feed displayed directly from a consumer appliance without the need for a computer in between (or an expensive commercial receiver).

Here are some screenshots (push and hold the Power button to take screenshots, like other Android boxes). I really like the way the unit displays signal modulation properties and bitrates.

Any other questions or tests you'd like me to throw at it, just ask! Could really use some help figuring out how to get it to tune UHF.

Thank you for taking the time to be the Guinea pig and testing this device. Based on its processor (Amlogic S905X3) and your comments, am I correct that it can't playback ABC or CBS main network 4:2:2 feeds? I would expect both playback at reduced frame rates if it at all but it would be great news if I am incorrect.

It plays them both, but the video isn't always smooth. CBS plays better than ABC.

PS- I forgot to mention this unit outputs true 4K UHD resolution, 3840 x 2160. Video looks great on a 4K set.

Other features not yet tested: plug and play SSD support, there's a slot right in the receiver. USB 3.0 port for an EHD. I'm assuming it will record both OTA and satellite.

Yes sir. It scans 57-880 Mhz IIRC, but only finds VHF stations during the scan.
Ok, next question: do you actually have a UHF antenna? If so, I would contact support on their forum, report it, and see if they can tweak the firmware to make US UHF work.

I know I had one of those Amiko A3 receivers that ran Android, and it was never really all that stable. Then it quickly lost support.

Thank for all your info on the gtx I have one here about a tear now but don't know how to go about getting the 4.2.2 channels via android as you mentioned. If you can show me the steps to get there as a newbie I would appreciate it sir and thanks in advance

Menu, TV setting, YUV4:2:2, Auto ON. Or when locked on a 4:2:2 channel, press Info, then the green button for "Player."
