Saints violate NFL Bounty rules, paid bonuses to injure players

It won't happen IMO. Step in and coach a team he didn't help build? Don't think he's that kind of coach. This is Payton looking out for himself and trying to get someone in who would step aside when he is back.

They promote from within and have a respectable season... then why do they need to pay Payton $6-8m/year? He'd be out of a job.

Do the Saints have to pay Payton's salary to the league, like fines, and than it goes to charity? I don't know if unpaid suspensions work like fines.

I think coach pay is simply suspended, not paid out, but not sure. Suspensions for money that comes from the cap has to be paid out, which goes to charity like you said.

after accepting responsibility publicly twice, Sean Payton appealed his suspension Friday. So did Vitt, Loomis, and the organization itself is appealing the $500k fine.

The only one looking better after all of the above? Gregg Williams, who is the only one not expected to file an appeal.

I wouldn't say looking better. More like not looking worse by also becoming a hypocrite.

Goodell expected to rule on appeals this week, hearings Tuesday. I wonder if they're going to use the 'everyone else does it, no we don't have proof of that, we're just the ones that got caught' that many Saints fans seem to cling to.

Of course, nobody expecting them to win the appeal.

Wish we could watch it on TV or something.

Goodell: "So, there was a bounty program for 3 years in your orginization, accepted money from a convited felon, compensated players outside the salary cap/contracts, instructed your subordinates to lie to NFL security, successfully concealed the program from at least one investigation... which part of this is in dispute"

Payton: "None of it, but everyone does-"

Goodell: "I think we're done here."

I think that the mention of criminal charges is just a tactic to get the players to cooperate fully with the NFL investigation. Can it be proved that even with a bounty program in place, that a specific hit or hits were tied to that bounty when hitting and tackling are a normal part of the game??

If it was the NFL saying that I would agree, but in this case it's the NFLPA, who are trying to do their own investigation, and are likely also preparing a defense for inevitably disciplined players. It's not in their best interest to scare players into cooperation and making it harder to defend them.

Pretty damning audio of Gregg Williams recorded before the Saints/Niners playoff game.

Warning: Contains Profanity

WOW!

Some of it was not literal. Like the comment of "kill the head, kill the body" or something like that....I have heard before. But when you talk about ACLs and concussions...THAT is another story.
