when i went to take down a dish, the gal gave me an old drake 1724

it had with it a page from a magazine called satellite tv week from 2001

it listed what was up thier basicly

i was wondering if the magazine was still in publication since a google search didnt bring me much

anyway it lists the outdoor channel being itc on cband man i wish i was born 10 years before i was born

until a year ago Outdoor Channel was in the clear

closest thing to it is orbit magazine but they also have Dish listings in it

I sub'd to SatelliteTV Week in the 80's, it was weekly and gave the most up to date info back then for wild feeds and programming as Orbit was and is monthly and was out of date by the time it came out usually for feeds

The fact that people accepted dishnetwork and directv, with their own channel guides and no moving parts, broke them. Internet, with fast access to info has wiped out tons of magazines. And newspapers.

I dont think it was the Mini Dishes fault that the big dish business fell apart. I put that blame on GI / Motorola who made it to expensive to purchase decoders (4DTV) and the fact that no new equipment was made allowing home viewers to view the master C Band feeds.

Other people should have been making Digicypher II equipment.

I think I have even seen these in the Chapters bookstore here in Canada, but, as with any UK publication, when you see them here, they are about a month behind. lol.

But if Mini Dishes had never come along, newer/better equipment for C-Band would have been more viable. I don't think the 4DTV receivers were any more expensive than some of their analog couterparts back in the day.......feel free to correct me on that. Keep in mind that the first Direct TV systems as I recall were around $1200 (that was here in Canada mind you).

According to online sources, when DirecTv started up in 1994, the dish and receiver sold for about $700 in the US. By 1997, DirecTv was advertising the combo for $199, in the US.

I still remember you subscribed to Directv and if you wanted movie channels you subbed to USSB. That was so awesome setting that up, coming inside and seeing the promo channel on - an ad for Tales From The Crypt on PPV

I think the reason the price of satellite tv and cellphones service has gone up so much, years ago you had to buy your own system or cellphone, now they give them to you.

I remember reading in a book from 94 that a directv system was IIRC $1500 for the rca with a fiberglass dish.

Dish network was originally going to launch on FSS Band.

Directv had a rca system with several data port, that they were going to use for add on HDTV, interactive features, etc

Il go to library sometime and scan those

primestar also had a sidecar that went on the original primestar receiver to make it Digicipher II complaint, but this never happened

you read wrong. Basic set was 799 and upgrade model was 949. Install was 200 bucks back then for pro install or DIY
