I think the reason the price of satellite tv and cellphones service has gone up so much, years ago you had to buy your own system or cellphone, now they give them to you.
I remember reading in a book from 94 that a directv system was IIRC $1500 for the rca with a fiberglass dish.
Dish network was originally going to launch on FSS Band.
Directv had a rca system with several data port, that they were going to use for add on HDTV, interactive features, etc
Il go to library sometime and scan those
primestar also had a sidecar that went on the original primestar receiver to make it Digicipher II complaint, but this never happened
