I expect all the excuse makers to once again talk about how great VOOM is and how great E has been in the past. But D launched the followign today:

FOX Business HD
Cartoon Network HD
FX HD
Fuel HD
Speed HD

All 5 of these are not on E... Stretchovision this stretchovsion that.. whatever it is, it is a LOT better than what were getting right now thru standard SD. I am beginning to wish I had gone with D and been patient a few months ago when I signed a contract.

Ya, plus 4 more full time HD RSN's, not just per game

and 7 more hd ppv's but I could care less about them

If D gets MSG HD.. I would SERIOUSLY consider paying the termination fee. That would be the final straw. I love the DVR but being the leader in the past is not enough for someone whose only been onboard a few months. The past means nothing to me.

Its coming, as the logo is already up at there website

My contract expired long time ago, so I can leave any day. But still waiting. Does D* show all these new channels in Full HD? I am one of those few strange guys that value quality over quantity, so I will not tolerate E* downrezzing for much longer, now that there is a competitor.

I've got both E* and D* for the moment (just added D* a couple of weeks ago) and have the largest package with each service. The dozen or so HD Premium movie channels I get in MPEG-4 are stunning and blow away the premium channels on E*, especially Starz; the two older MPEG-2 movie channels are essentially the same as E*. The upconverted SD material on the other channels are mostly sharp but it really depends on the source (if it's coming from old tape, dv cams, etc).

Considering that it hasn't really even been a month yet since D* started adding all the new HD, I'm willing to give E* some time. Since I have already purchased NHL CI and it is not transferable, I will certainly be staying through April.

I would not say they are killing Dish their just in catch up mode.. Heck most of the channels Direct has added Dish has had for awhile. The few that Direct has that Dish does not have Dish will add. But everyone needs to remember as more National Channels get their HD version of their channels up and running. All TV Service Providers will be able to carry the channel if they choose so in the long run Dish,Direct and Cable TV will have about the same about HD Channels.

I will switch when D* will offer free HD DVR, just refuse to pay $200 now. Otherwise, I'll wait until this happen or E* will add something. In meantime these new channels will add some HD content.

You do get a free HD DVR. Check out the specials page on Dish. You just have to send out for a rebate. 4 months and counting!

I'm with you, but I do have to give my props to D* for FINALLY delivering on their HD promises. Good job--and, again, I think this is good for ALL HD fans/cosumers...competition keeps things moving forward.

If E* hadn't pushed the HD programming envelope, do you think it would've EVER been a priority for D* to actually deliver? And likewise, do you think E* would push forward on its HD agenda as fast without D* on their heels?

I don't agree with this comment 1 bit. What is occurring now is pretty much exactly what was announced in DirecTV's Sept 2004 press release. They are just finally able to execute as the new D10 sat was turned on - pretty much just as expected.

When DirecTV made their announcement, the only other type of announcement that was made by DISH (in May 2003) was around their 'superdish' plan to offer 50 HD channels - a plan that was scrapped BTW - no HD programming has been made available on superdish.

DirecTV was unable to react to what DISH did actually add in HD, because they had no bandwidth until now.

This has all come down to who was able to get their new sats up and running first - and that by some luck and planning was DirecTV. If it had gone the other way, the end result would be the other way.

My dad was all excited about maybe switching to D* over the new HD channels until I told him no free HD DVR and they would have to have 2 dishes.

Speed HD has the potential to be awesome.
