Detroit Tigers

Absolutely great 9th inning last night for the Tigers! It was awesome to see Jim Leyland running around like they had won the pennant. The attitude seems different now. They look like the Tigers of last year where winning is fun, and the only option.

They are now officially 3.5 games back in the wild-card, and 6 from the division. They have a double header today in Comerica againt Texas, so they can make up some ground if they win both.

Go Tigers!

We replayed Leyland running around after the game twice, HILARIOUS! Great to see the old guy still finds joy in the game, I know I did last night. The Tigers are running out of time, but not out of fight. This sure has been exciting, you got to love a pennant chase! These 9th inning, 2 out heroics are going to give me a coronary. What a way to go out though.

Yeah yeah yeah .... It must have been my fault that Granderson made history too .... right? lol ;)

This Kid is having an amazing season, and it's only his second full season. Maybe a career season, but not his last. He may never put those numbers (20's across the board) up again, but I can see him sliding into the 3 spot in the lineup someday, and putting up some huge numbers average,HR, and RBI wise. In my opinion, the best CFer in the game now. A five tool player, who should get better as he ages. My favorite player, and hopefully a cornerstone for the Tigers for years to come. Congratulations Curtis on a truelly remarkable season!

Unfortunatly , they forgot how to play in game one of thendouble header.
They are winning tonight, but that does nothing for them in the standing, if they win tonight and the Indians and or Yankees win the Tigers drop another 1/2 game back ....

UUUgghhhh. :( This rollercoaster is takign an effect on my mood! A great win last night, and emotional win at that, and today in game one... flat. I don't get it. Today came down to pitching.

Going UP Joe ????
Winning tonight !!!

I personally think they don't have enough games left now, and they really are not playing that well yet.

Yep... klack-klack...klack-klack... we are going up the first hill.... I hope it is the tallest roller coaster in the world, and gets stuck at the top!

Officially four games back in the wild card and 6 in the division. I do not think there are enough games left either. Bonderman may be done for the season, and personally I hope he does not try to be a hero and come back next week. He may be the Ace next year if Rogers leaves.

We can catch the Yankees this weekend if Boston plays them hard and we play Minnesota hard. After Detroit's Minnesota Series we have Cleveland in the Jake. The next week of Tigers and Yankees baseball will tell us if the post season is a reality.

Bonderman is a player with great talent, but I think there is a void between his ears. I'm still waiting for him to put a full season of good pitching together, he keeps pitching well only for 1/2. As for the ace - Verlander has established himself as the owner of that title. As of Monday he was second in the league in victories.

Time is running out on the Tigers, though. Cleveland has 15 of their last 18. This still isn't over until after we play them in the upcoming 3 game series. Joe , I know what you mean by the roller coaster ride.

Another great outing for Verlander! Cleveland Lost last night. Tigers are 5.5 back in the division, and 4 in the wild card.

I keep saying it... this next week in the AL is the season. Yankees vs. Red Sox, Tigers vs. Cleveland.

I know I have no significant plans to go anywhere except my lazyboy in my theater/sports room!

Don't get too excited Tiger's fans, you're done. Getting awfully excited over 1 win, aren't you? Too little too late, sorry! As I said before, your manager already crowned the Indians the AL Central Champs.

The Indians are the hottest team in baseball and have been for the last 2 months. We are coming back home tomorrow after going 7-3 on a 10 game road trip!

Here's a peak at our remaining schedule. Gonna be pretty tough to make up 5.5 games with this remaining schedule and the way we're playing....

3 vs. KC (Home)
3 vs. DET (Home)
3 vs. OAK (Home)
4 at SEA (Away)
3 at KC (Away)

Oh, to add insult to injury, everyone here in Cleveland is planning on clinching on our upcoming home stand. Magic number is currently at 11 games. Any combination of Tribe wins and/or Kittens losses equals our number going down, equating to an AL Central Title and automatic playoff bid.......

Oh brother, Typical Cleveland Fan, don't get too cocky, we did last season, and blew it the last weekend, to the very same team you are finishing up against. Good Luck, shuld be fun down the stretch, and btw, those 3 vs Detroit will be pressure filled, for your sake, you better hope te lead is not down to 3 by then. While I agree you have a better schedule ( ON PAPER) you play KC 6 times. They are very capable of beating you 4 of those or sweeping, hope the over rated Wedge does not let his team over look them.

Oh BTW those 3 against the Tigers, are still going to be tough, you speak as if it will be easy. The still are the AL champs until they do not make it. It aint over till its over, remember that.

Take it easy... we have all been very civil on this thread.

I agree Cleveland has a schedule in their favor... so do the Yankees except for their series against Boston. In my opinion it is a long shot to expect the Yankees to lose three against the Red Sox, and one more between any other "gravy" game they have left. It is also a long shot to expect Cleveland to lose all three against Detroit, and any two of their remaining "gravy" games to give Detroit the lead.

But remember last September for you guys in Indian country. It was a rough month. Anything can happen.

Yeah, should be interesting and will make for some good viewing. I'm especially thrilled that the next 9 games will be in glorious HD on STO.

I think Wedge and the Indians learned a lesson in 2005 (we missed the playoffs in the last game of the season that year). This team is playing with a sense of urgency and will play our asses off until the AL Central is ours.

One thing for sure though is that if CC. Sabathia isn't crowned the AL Cy Young winner, it would be a travesty against baseball! He and Fausto Carmona carried this team the entire year and even during our offensive slump.....

I agree Sabathia should get the Cy Young this year... only if he gets 20 wins. Becket, and Wang are good candidates too. The only thing that Sabathia has going for him that those others don't is he has 4 complete games, where as the others have 1 or two.

But don't forget, Verlander has the same amount of wins with 2 less losses than Sabathia... and he threw the no hitter this year.

With 3 starts each left, it is still too early to pick a winner - the top 3 are that close. Sabathia has one less win with 4 more starts than either Becket or Wang. Let's see who among them win 20 or more.

The exact same argument can be made for Wang on the Yankees. He has been consistent all year - even when the team was stinking it up.

Sabathia should get the nod despite the wins, but based on the compilation of stats. #1 Santana (3.09. 15-11, 201 IP), gets passed based on him losing 5 games this year to the Indians and #2 Haren (3.11, 14-7, 202 IP) is on a non contending team.

Here's a breakdown of your considerations. I threw in Carmona who has gone completely under the radar, while having a better ERA and more innings pitched than Beckett, Verlander and Wang. BTW, he's our #2! Tribe starting pitching has sucked up a ton of innings this year and have the most quality starts among any other rotation. Sabathia's Innings Pitched is especially eye-opening compared to others. To me, these stats speak volumes in what he has meant to the team this year.

#3) Sabathia- 17-7, 3.15 ERA, 220 IP
#6) Carmona- 16-8, 3.20 ERA, 194 IP
#8) Beckett- 18-6, 3.27 ERA, 181 IP
#11) Verlander- 17-5, 3.47 ERA, 184 IP
#14) Wang- 18-6, 3.69, 180 IP

But don't forget, Verlander has the same amount of wins with 2 less losses than Sabathia... and he threw the no hitter this year.

Verlander's also pitched in 2 less games than Sabathia this year.
