Sabathia should get the nod despite the wins, but based on the compilation of stats. #1 Santana (3.09. 15-11, 201 IP), gets passed based on him losing 5 games this year to the Indians and #2 Haren (3.11, 14-7, 202 IP) is on a non contending team.

Here's a breakdown of your considerations. I threw in Carmona who has gone completely under the radar, while having a better ERA and more innings pitched than Beckett, Verlander and Wang. BTW, he's our #2! Tribe starting pitching has sucked up a ton of innings this year and have the most quality starts among any other rotation. Sabathia's Innings Pitched is especially eye-opening compared to others. To me, these stats speak volumes in what he has meant to the team this year.

#3) Sabathia- 17-7, 3.15 ERA, 220 IP
#6) Carmona- 16-8, 3.20 ERA, 194 IP
#8) Beckett- 18-6, 3.27 ERA, 181 IP
#11) Verlander- 17-5, 3.47 ERA, 184 IP
#14) Wang- 18-6, 3.69, 180 IP

Verlander's also pitched in 2 less games than Sabathia this year.

Pitching two less, or two more games does not hold as much weight when the win column is 19 or higher.

Don't get too excited Tiger's fans, you're done. Getting awfully excited over 1 win, aren't you? Too little too late, sorry! As I said before, your manager already crowned the Indians the AL Central Champs.

The Indians are the hottest team in baseball and have been for the last 2 months. We are coming back home tomorrow after going 7-3 on a 10 game road trip!

Here's a peak at our remaining schedule. Gonna be pretty tough to make up 5.5 games with this remaining schedule and the way we're playing....

3 vs. KC (Home)
3 vs. DET (Home)
3 vs. OAK (Home)
4 at SEA (Away)
3 at KC (Away)

Oh, to add insult to injury, everyone here in Cleveland is planning on clinching on our upcoming home stand. Magic number is currently at 11 games. Any combination of Tribe wins and/or Kittens losses equals our number going down, equating to an AL Central Title and automatic playoff bid.......

Try the last month, maybe. The Yankee's might argue this point. You guys haven't won anything yet. I guarantee you the Tigers haven't quit. If we sweep you in your park, what will you be saying then?

If the Tigers catch Cleveland, it will probably be largely due to Verlanders outstanding pitching down the stretch. In that case Verlander could be the CY Young winner.

GO TIGERS!!!

Yeah, should be interesting and will make for some good viewing. I'm especially thrilled that the next 9 games will be in glorious HD on STO.

I think Wedge and the Indians learned a lesson in 2005 (we missed the playoffs in the last game of the season that year). This team is playing with a sense of urgency and will play our asses off until the AL Central is ours.

One thing for sure though is that if CC. Sabathia isn't crowned the AL Cy Young winner, it would be a travesty against baseball! He and Fausto Carmona carried this team the entire year and even during our offensive slump.....

I agree Sabathia should get the Cy Young this year... only if he gets 20 wins. Becket, and Wang are good candidates too. The only thing that Sabathia has going for him that those others don't is he has 4 complete games, where as the others have 1 or two.

But don't forget, Verlander has the same amount of wins with 2 less losses than Sabathia... and he threw the no hitter this year.

Why is Sabathia such a lock, as mentioned , others have as many wins and with less games pitched.

I'd like to add that being a 20 game winner will go a long way towards Cy Young consideration. The majors didn't have one last season.

What if none of them make it to 20 ?
If I were to look at the list of players I least want to see in the playoffs it goes like this.
Wang Carmona, Sabathia or Verlander then Beckett.

Any of them are well worth it.
Carmona has impressed me more than CC.
When Verlander is on (he has been this month) he's the toughest out there.

If I recall over the years, the Tigers have normally very well againt CC, but cannot do anything with Carmona thia year.

The Indians are the hottest team in baseball and have been for the last 2 months.

The Indians are NOT the hottest team for the past two months:

On July 13th the records were:

CLE 53-36
NYY 44-44

today

CLE 85-61
NYY 83-63

Cleve has gone 32-25 in the past 2 months; The Yanks have gone 39-19.

In all honesty, I was literally talking about "THE LAST 2 MONTHS" meaning August and September.

So, while close, the records on Aug. 1st were:

CLE 60-47
NYY 59-49

Today:

CLE 85-61
NYY 83-63

So in summary, for the months of August and September, the Indians had a record of 25-14 while the Yankees had a record of 24-14. So yes, technically the Indians ARE the hottest team in the MLB for the months of August and September.....

Don't want to bust your bubble, but........

Your results are INCORRECT in 2 ways.
First, you are showing Clevelands record AFTER the game they played on August 1st, and you are showing an INCORRECT record for the Yankees.

After games were played on July 31st, the teams records were:

CLE 60-46
NYY 57-49

Today they are:

CLE 85-61
NYY 83-63

The Tribe is 25-15 since July 31 ended
The Yankees are 26-14 in the same timeframe.

Oh - and the Yankess won on Aug 1 while the Indians lost on that day.

Sorry Jimbo, but we had the game in HD here in beautiful Detroit.
We can't catch a break, can we? Yankee's rally for 6 runs to upend Boston, and Cleveland (I'm really starting to hate that city) comes back in the 9th also. The rotation looks good for the Cleveland series, but we still need to pick up a game on them before we play. 8 of the last 10, and we're no closer. At least they're going out fighting.
