Detroit Tigers

My bad on that post,(heard it on local sports radio). Monroe is "designated for assignment", which means the Tigers have 10 days to make a trade or release him. It's my understanding though that Monroe refused to go to AAA. Talk about throwing someone to the wolves, they sure picked a tough time to bring Maybin up - Yankee Stadium, facing Pettitte and Clemens in his first 2 starts. I would think that would be a little overwhelming for anybody. I'm sure he will be just fine after he settles in. Detroit supposedly still talking to Pittsburgh about Jack Wilson. Infante will certainly be recalled Sept. 1st, when rosters expand to 40 players.

The thing I was most surprised to see with Maybin was the fact that Leyland put himin the # 2 spot in the lineup.
I would have expected to see him at number 9, much easier to deal with at the bottom and if he got on, you would have his speed ahead of Granderson on the base paths.
Let see if he gets moved today.
Yes, Yankee stadium is not where I would have thought they would start him at , but in the 2 hole was worse.

Got to agree on that Jimbo. 2 spot is definitely for somebody who gets the bat on the ball - something Maybin didn't do to well last night. A lot of pressure for a twenty year old.

Maybe Polanco will be back soon (today) (wishfull thinking I guess)
It would have been nice to be able to play these huge series with the Yankees and Indians at least 90 % full strength. Tigers are at about 50 % at the moment.

Tigers Good or Bad

Well, it's about game time with NO idea as to if it's a day for the Tigers to play to thier capabilities or just play like crap like they have of late.

Hope they get healthy quick, unfortunatly it will be to late for the huge series that they are in the middle of (Yanks and Indians).

Your post (305) makes sense to me for sure - the Yanks suffered through that in April and May.

But I was referring to the game today when I said "Nice".

Jimbo - you got a direct line to Leyland's ear? Maybin in the 9 spot and he has a great day at bat. Got a lot to learn out in LF though. I'm sure he will adjust, after playing CF all this time. Nice to see what all the fuss was about. Clemens looked like the Cy Young winner of old yesterday. Hoping for a split today. Leyland says Polanco will probabily sit till Tuesday. By the way, the game was on in HD in Detroit area yesterday.

Is todays game in HD also, is it on Fox 2 or CW 50 ?
If I would have thought about it, I would have turned the antenna and see if I could pick it up, usually I can get Detroit with the antenna turned.

As for Jim and I, ya do know he grew up about 15 minutes from here in Perrysburg, Ohio .....
Perrysbug ball field is "Leyland field.

Actually I don't have any connection, it just made good sense.

They were probably booing him for his classless remarks directed to Joe Torre, which he seems to have to keep repeating ad nauseum. There's an unwritten rule about airing your dirty laundry. Unfortunately Sheffield must have missed that class in humanities school.

What did you expect from the "Very high class" Yankee fan ?

They severely fail to realize what he did for them the last 3 years ....

Alot of this is media driven.
Notice Shef hasn't said anything in the last several weeks, thats about when he first mentioned it about Joe (which I don't agree with either) and it was discussed originally, but the media - announcers have to bring it up EVERY telecast they do.

IF by some chance they both make the playoffs, I bet we hear them talking about it again, regardless if Sheff says ANYTHING again, and somehow if the Yanks make it and the Tigers don't , the media - announcers will make it sound like it was Sheff's comments that "Lit the fire under the Yanks " as to why the Yanks made the playoffs.

As already CORRECTLY mentioned, it was 100% for saying the BS he did - it had nothing to do with his play, which every Yankee fan I know thinks was great.

It was 100% deserved for his mouth IMO.
