MLB 2008 Season

Following their win tonight, my Red Sox have reached their official halfway (81 games) point. They sit at 49-32, which of course projects to 98-64. I should be excited, right? Well, I can't put my finger on it, but somethings missing. I remember feeling the same way at different points last year......and they proceeded to win the World Series. This year just feels different to me. I hope I'm wrong, we shall see.

If I were you, I'd only be worried about the Rays.

The Orioles can't beat a little league team, the Blue Jays are in a fog, and the Yankees don't know a baseball pitcher from a pitcher of Kool-Aid.

Don't get me wrong, I still see the Red Sox going to the playoffs. I just envision another 2005 (when the White Sox swept Boston in the ALDS).

EXACTLY!! And remember, that farm systems is filled with so many prospects they can litterally pull the trigger for ANYBODY....so don't be surprised to see CC Sabathia and/or Ken Griffey playing for the Rays by August.

I think it's great what the Rays are doing, but sorry, I'll ALWAYS worry about the Yankees. It's kinda in my blood.

Will Tampa's fans show up for their series with Boston?

You have a good team; support your team!

I think Cleveland's first year AFL team, the Cleveland Gladiators, have averaged a higher attendance than the Florida baseball teams.

No really! Cleveland Gladiators have averaged 14,031 fans per home game in 2008. I'm pretty sure this rivals that of the two MLB teams in Florida. Sad indeed.....

You people up north have no clue about the fan base down here because 95% of the people that lived up north, were more than likely raised in that area...they were raised to like the local teams. The local teams have a history.

Down in Florida, especially south Florida....AT LEAST 50% of the population is was not born and raised in Miami. MOST are transplanted New Yorkers...who were raised Yankeee and Mets fans, Chicagoans...who were raised Cubs or Sox fans or Latino....who are raised to either like "futbol"....aka soccer or IF they did follow baseball, they were brought up to like the teams from the big cities.....Yankees, Red Sox, Mets, White Sox, Cubs and Dodgers. Then the other half that WERE born and raised here......they had NO BASEBALL but spring training until the early to mid 90s.....NO TIME to establish history. AND on top of that, Miami and the Tampa area for a long time, were both JUST FOOTBALL towns...and to a certain extent, still are.

Tampa's 3-0 since you switched avatars. Coincidence? I think not...

Anyway,

here's my MLB thought of the day:

Does ANYONE want to win the N.L. West?

It seems like we could have a .500 record getting into the playoffs and a 90-win team not make it.

Nope. Karma is biting the Red Flops in the butt. Besides, I'm changing my avatar to something Celtics or Bruins related. I will, however, root for the Rays the rest of the way. They may not be my team, but this is the Rays year!!

You know, it's funny, but after the April the D-Backs had they looked unbeatable. Also, as I stated in your " random thoughts" thread, I thought the Rangers were the worst team in baseball in April....they were THAT pitiful. Now here we are ten days from the All-Star break..... and the Rangers are a better team than the Diamondbacks. Yes, baseball is a funnnnnnny game!!!

Red Flops?

That's pretty funny.

Let's give it a bit of time and that could rank right up there with this forum's funny team insults:

Sandra- Ice-landers.

Iceberg- Golden Goofers.

SamCDBS- Leastleftovers.

Don't forget the Bungles. :D

Yes, I'm down on the Red Sox (and will be until they finally do something about that eternal headache....Manny being Manny Ramirez). However, I can't say enough about the strength and fortitude of Jon Lester. Consider this:

* Jon Lester makes his ML debut (June 2006)

* Jon Lester is diagnosed with cancer (Sept. 2006)

* Jon Lester goes through vigorous cancer treatments (Sept. 2006- Dec. 2006)

* Jon Lester pitches his first ML game post- cancer diagnosis (July 2007)

* Jon Lester pitches 6 shutout innings and got the win in the Red Sox World Series clincher (Oct. 2007)

* Jon Lester pitches a no-hitter ( May 2008)

* Jon Lester's father is diagnosed witht the same type of cancer as his son (May 2008)

* This brings us to tonight: Jon Lester pitches a 5 hit complete game shutout of the Yankees, in his first start EVER in Yankee Stadium. It's also the first shutout pitched by a Red Sox southpaw in Yankee Stadium in 35 years. This is one night after the vaunted Yankee lineup puts up 18 runs against the Rangers.

* Jon Lester is now 21-6 in 45 lifetime starts (including postseaon).

Oh yeah, the kid is only 24 years old!!!

I think it's pretty safe to say the kid is an inspiration, and I'll be rooting for him no matter how I feel about the Red Sox.

BTW, it's been reported that Joe Girardi had a postgame tirade in the Yankees clubhouse. Stay tuned.

I don't think it will be as good or as loud as the one from the Mariners ex-manager.

As for Manny, I think this is his last year with the team.

What does he have left to do for them?

He has championships, a World Series MVP, and hit #500.

Contrary to what I predicted before the season,

it's not all doom and gloom in San Francisco.

I thought they would be baseball's worst team.

Well, they are not as horrific as I thought they'd be.

Tim Lincecum- clearly, it appears that the future isn't as bleak as I thought it would be.

They FINALLY have a star player and All-Star that does NOT use steroids for the first time in years.
