MLB 2008 Season

How's the weather out in Cali Sabres? I bet you're drinking a lot of tea out there to say cool! It's been in the 90's here in Ohio. I can only imagine it must be warmer out west....

It is pretty damn hot out here, HD.

We don't have tea, but thankfully, there are a lot of water bottles in this house.

There are some things about Cali that aren't in Wisconsin- Jack in the Box, Carl's Jr, Marie Callender's, Wienerschntzel.

Can Texas at least catch Oakland for second? The A's are selling (AGAIN!).

I think Texas can- and will- catch Oakland for second place. But there's no way the Rangers can catch the Angels, they just don't have the pitching to go on a Rockies type run.

The In n' Out Double Double is the world's most perfect cheeseburger from a "fast food" outlet. And Fudrucker's food is pretty damn good, too. :hungry::hungry:

Never eaten at either of those places.

We have a couple drive-ins and dives that offer excellent burgers here in NE Ohio, but I don't think they're chains.

At home though, I make my own burgers out of a ground meat combination of (80/20), with my personal seasoning and A-1 and Worcestershire sauce. I form the patties to about a 1/2lb each and throw them on the grill. 4 minutes on each side over medium heat. Of course I must top them with a colby jack or similar thick slice of cheese. :hungry:

Watch out!!!

With the Yankees win and the Rays loss tonight, the Bronx Bombers are now only 3.5 games out of first place.

Here we are into the last weekend of July and the pennant races are scorching hot. The Angels have separated themselves from the pack in the AL West, but other than that we have four divisions with three teams battling for first place, and the abysmal NL West with one game separating the D-Backs and Dodgers (both teams still under .500). Both wild card races are also extremely close. This weekend features four very interesting and important series:

Yankees-Red Sox- The Bombers are only 3 games back and have yet to lose since the ASB. The Sox have Big Papi returning after two months on the DL.

White Sox-Tigers- Huge series in the AL Central. Detroit has come back and is only 5.5 games out of first. If the Tigers sweep........look out!

Cardinals-Mets- These two teams are currently going in opposite directions. The Cardinals better be careful that they don't fall too far behind the Cubs and the white-hot Brewers.

Marlins-Cubs- Both these teams are currently scuffling a little bit. Both clubs could look back at this series as huge in determining the NL wild card. Cubs are still in first place in the central, one game ahead of the Brew Crew. The Marlins are in third place in the East, two games back.

Cubs call up Samardzija

The Chicago Cubs called up right-hander Jeff Samardzija from Triple-A Iowa on Friday after placing closer Kerry Wood on the disabled list with a blister on his right index finger.

Samardzija, a former Notre Dame football star, was a starter in the minor leagues, going 7-6 with a 4.29 ERA for Iowa and Double-A Tennessee.

He made his final six minor league starts for Iowa, going 4-1 with a 3.13 ERA. He struck out 40 in 37 1/3 innings.

"We're going to put him in the bullpen and probably use him in the middle to get his feet wet," Cubs manager Lou Piniella said. "The sooner we get him in, the better. He's throwing strikes and getting people out. We'll give him a nice opportunity and see what he can do."

Seriously, can Wood ever stay on the field?

I am pushing for the Sox. I don't see Detroit doin' it just yet. And Carlos Quentin is a one man gang bang with his bat this week! What a strong kid.

As far as Wrigleyville...I got my $$ on the Cubbies...back home and all day games this weekend. They'll get it going again. And I can't wait to see Jeff pitch.

I actually have my money (not literally :D) on the Tigers. I think they come back and win that division.

KCK,
how does it feel that your Angels are the only team in the majors with a comfortable lead right now? I think this is your year. :)

Bill,

To be honest, it feels GREAT! However, I have long ago fallen for the Scioscia Way of Winning and take nothing for granted. I am hoping for a nice, leisurely stroll thru Birdland for the weekend because they have their work cut out for them next week back to their Den of Doom...Fenway and a little side piece over to Yankee.

But I will sit back and take in tonight's game and hope for a win.:hatsoff:
