Detroit Tigers

Paul,
Some chatter going on down here in T-Town.
Some of the local media were speculating what the Tigers might do next year.
Guillen to 1B is obvious, that means we need a SS that can hit as well as field.
Santiago could not do it several years back and again not this year either.

Thier thoughts was IF they don't make a push for a bonifide SS , they could move Brandon Inge to SS and move Mike Hessman to third, Hess is also a superb fielder with a power bat.

What do you guys thing ?

Also I was thinking, with a full year of Spring training and maybe winter ball as well, how about Maybin in left with more experience he should feel more confortable, then we'll seethe real Maybin. They may platoon him with Raburn in LF as well.

Inge at SS? That's an intriging idea. I believe he was a SS when the Tigers drafted him. Just found out Timo is 32, that was a little disappointing. I thought maybe we found a long term solution with that guy. LF will be a platoon position next year with Rayburn, Thames, and Timo. Look for Maybin to start next season in the minors.

Well, here we go. The series we've all been waiting for. Do or die time. Anything short of sweep will kill the Tigers chances of catching the Tribe. We definitely caught a break on their rotation, while Leyland pitched 2 rookies this past weekend (what balls!) in order to get Rogers, Verlander, and Robertson in line for us. Great piece of managing. You gotta love a great pennant race. By the by, the Tigers are the hottest team in baseball for September. Followed by NY. Cleveland, and Boston.

Go Tigers!

Detroit fans, one thing you got going for you this series is that our top 2 pitchers just went against KC over the weekend. (C.C. and Fausto), so you don't get to see Fausto this series. The Tigers on the other hand shuffled their pitching staff in advance in anticipation of this series. The matchups this week are as follows. Should be a good one.......

Monday: Rogers vs. Byrd
Tuesday: Verlander vs. Westbrook
Wednesday: Robertson vs. Sabathia

Go Tribe. Magic number's at 9 games. Lead over Detroit is 4.5 games.

Actually the only one that was moved was Kenny Rogers.
That may have a little to do with the fact that he's only pitched a limited number of innings since coming back from injury.

In the MOST important games to date, Leyland pitched rookies ...
Quite a call (risk), had they both lost ,the Indians series would now be meaningless.

I forgot that the second one pitched, I would not consider Jurjiins to be a fill in to get our rotation set.
The Indians can be happy that they are NOT going to see Jurjiin's.

Yea this all depends on which Robertson shows up. as for kenny, if he gets the corners he is tough, if he gets squeezed by the umps, then it could be a long night.

Another well pitched game slllllliiiiiipppping away from the Tigers tonight,
Rogers went 7 gave up 2 runs and the bullpen has lost it.
Hopefully they go to extras !

Well... Blake sealed it for the Tigers. I am afraid that the Tigers can win the last two and the rest of their games this year, and it will not be enough. Yankees handled Baltimore, and have an easy rest of the road, and the division is officially out of sight.

They are not going to catch the Indians.

Tigers lose in 12, 6-5
Another wasted effort :down

I think the Tigers chances of winning the division just went down the tubes.
With the Yankees winning as often as the Tigers, it'll be a long haul to pass them.

btw, for those Yankees fans out there that keep saying that the Yankees are the hottest team in baseball....

Coming into tonights game, the Tigers were 11-4 in September, best record in baseball in September.
Now they are tied with the Yankees and the Sox at 11-5, Yanks won tonight, not sure about the Sox.

tick, tick, tick, tick..............

The Yankees ARE the hottest team in baseball - you just are choosing a small window of the season to say they aren't. Since the end of May, they have the BEST record in all of the major leagues.

Also, you seem to have your numbers wrong:

At the end of play on august 31st the Tigers were 72-63 now they are 83-68 record for Sept is 11-5
Cleveland was 77-57 now they are 88-62 record for Sept is 11-5
Boston was 80-55 now they are 90-61 record for Sept is 10-6
Yankees were 75-60 now they are 86-64 record for Sept is 11-4
Yankees have the best record for Sept.

How else would a team make up a 9 1/2 game deficit on the Tigers, and now lead them by 4? Or trail the Bosox by 14 1/2 and cut that to 3 in the loss column? BTW, unlikely as it may be, don't count the Yanks out from winning the East title yet.

Thats interesting, they had the stats for September up on the TV tonight and the Tigers were either tied with the Yanks or ahead by 1 I don't remember which now.
You clearly twisted the records to favor you. The list I posted was going INTO tonight, thats where the discrepance came in.
Tigers WERE the top team in September until you added tonights game into it.
Tigers were 11-4 and the Yanks were 10-4

I like to look at hot teams as in what have they done in the last 10 games or the month.
IF you really want to see who was the HOTTEST as you say, look and see who has the best record in baseball at the end of the year, but to do that would be boring as it doesn't live in the "Here and Now" part of the year.

According to your Overall scheme of things, the Yankees STILL would not be the hottest team overall, that would go to Boston They have 90 wins !

I twisted nothing, I read your post, it mentioned that AFTER tonights games the Yankees and Tigers were TIED - that is INACCURATE. I clearly wrote that my results were after todays games as well.

Maybe you need to re-read what you wrote.

I really don't care....

You can post what ever you want, nothing is going to change until the next games are played.

btw, your Tick , tick , tick doesn't bother ME at all.... I find it kinda comical actually :)

The Tigers CAN still catch the YANKS, IF things work out ....

It's not over till it's over.

Jimbo

That ticking clock is NOT towards YOU - it is towards the great job the Yankees are doing in closing out the season.

And yes, the Tigers could catch the Yankees, and the Yankees could catch the RedSox, and so on. I agree.

The Tick Tocking is in reference to the Yankees careers and seasons coming to an end. Their bullpen and starting pitching isn't what it used to be and we all know that pitching is the most important aspect in wining playoff baseball. That's what Steinbrenner and the Yankee bandwagon nation cannot get a grasp on. That's why the Tiger's beat the "Eastern Division Champs" last year 3-1 in the ALDS. It's also the reason why the Yanks haven't won a sausage since 2000, despite consistently having the highest payroll, access to any player money can buy and an offensive juggernaut of a team. They continue to ignore pitching and that will be their Achilles heal again this year even if they manage to claw their way into the playoffs.

Go Tribe. Magic #'s at 7 and we're right on Boston's tail in earning the best record in the AL to achieve homefield through out the playoffs. I have a feeling it's gonna be an Indian Summer!
