Detroit Tigers

The Tick Tocking is in reference to the Yankees careers and seasons coming to an end. Their bullpen and starting pitching isn't what it used to be and we all know that pitching is the most important aspect in wining playoff baseball. That's what Steinbrenner and the Yankee bandwagon nation cannot get a grasp on. That's why the Tiger's beat the "Eastern Division Champs" last year 3-1 in the ALDS. It's also the reason why the Yanks haven't won a sausage since 2000, despite consistently having the highest payroll, access to any player money can buy and an offensive juggernaut of a team. They continue to ignore pitching and that will be their Achilles heal again this year even if they manage to claw their way into the playoffs.

Go Tribe. Magic #'s at 7 and we're right on Boston's tail in earning the best record in the AL to achieve homefield through out the playoffs. I have a feeling it's gonna be an Indian Summer!

Cleveland is in a great spot and I know just how they feel as fans. Its the same feeling as it was being a Tigers fan in the post season last year. They deserve it. Soak it in Tribe fans. Go to a post season game and relish in the atmosphere. There is nothing like it in the world!

I give credit to Cleveland Indian fans. They are very civil. Cavs fans, Browns fans, and Ohio State fans are some of the most hostile, rude, and abrupt fans on the planet, that I have run into at Piston, Lions, or MSU games. But it may just be because there is a difference between baseball, basketball and football.

When the Yankees and Indians meet, I am cheering for the Indians to destroy the Yankee machine the way our Tigers did last year. :)

HD MM:

Are you talking about the team (CLEVELAND) that the Yankees SWEPT this year? LOL.

Or a team that hasn't won anything EVER in YOUR LIFETIME?

Thanks for the support Joedeckock. It has been a good race this season in the ever challenging AL Central. Die-hard Indian fans are thrilled to death of their team. It isn't and never will be the same as in the 90's when Jacob's Field first opened and it was a sellout every night, but resemblances can be made. If we end up playing the Yanks in the first round, it looks as if we will have home field advantage. I would be comfortable going against the mighty Yankee bats in a short series no matter how hot they think they are. Reason being?.........

C.C. Game 1
Fausto Game 2
Byrd/Westbrook Game 3

Rafael Perez- 7th inning
Rafael Betencourt- 8th inning
Joe Borowski- Closing it out in the 9th.

Put a fork in it bandwagon Yankee fans. You're season of dreams will be squashed in the first round!

Ballsiest move of the season had to be in the 10th inning when Betancourt decided to pitch to Ordonez with a runner on second and two outs. Ordonez ended up popping out and the inning was over. What a call! The management clearly has every bit of confidence in their pitching staff this year...

I'm putting this loss on Leyland and his pitch count managing. Rogers was on cruise control and 100 pitches. Would another inning really hurt? Given the shakiness of the bullpen and the importance of this game, I would have gone with Rogers for one more inning.Of course hindsight is 20-20, but my wife , my friend, and myself all groaned when Rogers didn't come to the mound in the 8th. It was like we all saw it coming. Disappointing loss. Cleveland is pretty much out of reach, barring a miracle. Even if we win all the remaining games (that would be a helluva finish), Cleveland only has to go 7-5. I guess attention turns to the Yankme's. Did Scobuck really have to argue records after the fact? State ahead that you're changing the terms of the debate.

Actually the only one that was moved was Kenny Rogers.
That may have a little to do with the fact that he's only pitched a limited number of innings since coming back from injury.

Jimbo

Leyland definitely moved Rogers, so that he would face the Indians. Nothing to do with his injury. Rogers is fine. Leyland stated this in an interview a few days ago.

Get it straight

Attached is the post - it was from 10:50pm EST last night and clearly mentioned that AFTER THE GAME THE TIGERS AND YANKS WERE TIED. His first line shows this was posted AFTER last nights games were COMPLETED.

I replied that he was wrong. Because he WAS. After the game the Yankees were 11-4 (not 11-5).

I merely corrected his post- I changed no debate. It is the CORRECTED and accurate standings that changed the debate.

I stopped arguing with Scobuck about who was the "hottest team in baseball". He clearly slices the statistics any way to favor his own beloved Yanks. Kinda funny actually. Besides, we all have our own interests in determining who the "hottest" team in baseball really is. Indians vs. Yanks vs. Tigers. I guess only time will tell.....

To me the hottest pitcher in baseball is C.C. Sabathia. Up until his last start he went 10 straight games without allowing more than 2 runs! And this was all while battling in a pennant race. I would hate to face him in the playoffs.

Right - first you said for two months and I posted the official results to show you were wrong. Then you said August and Sept and I then posted those official results to show you were wrong again.

Is it Me that is being creative? Or were you simply incorrect? The right thing to do is simply say you made a mistake, I didn't slice statistics any which way.

The latter - as can be proven if you want to again.

So the question - which team had a better record in August and September as of the time of your post?

What's up with only 29,000 in the seats in Cleveland. Don't they know they're in a pennant race? The only tickets available in Detroit are in the nosebleeds, and very few of them at that.
Dollar dogs? How about $1 beer? Comerica is very expensive at the food and beverage stands. Ticket prices are reasonable, but parking and concessions are the real reason I can't afford to go more games. Most of the lots charge $20, $10, if you don't mind walking a few hundred blocks. Beer prices are ridiculous, as well as $3.50 for a stinking hot dog.

Be Grateful Sir!!! At both Yankee and Shea Stadiums beers are in the 9 dollar range and hotdogs are 5.50. In additon with new stadiums going up adjacent to both parking is atrocious. At Shea Stadium they park you by the tennis center and school bus you to a drop off site about 1/2 mile away from the stadium itself.

Baseball would do itself a great favor if they dropped all concession prices to proper amounts.

I think the MLB should regulate it.

$1 for hot dogs
$2 for soda's
$1 for Peanuts & Cracker Jacks
$1.50 Pizza slices.

Personally I think the beer prices can stay the same or go up some. There are already too many drunk annoying people in the stands at Comerica Park!

Most would attribute the lack of attendance to the series of events following the 2000 season. A little backround first.....

Jacob's Field opened in 1994. The then owner, Dick Jacobs, was committed to bringing a winner to the city and had a huge crop of prospects coming up through the minors. The merging of competitive baseball and the new ballpark was perfect timing for the city.

Jacob's Field set a major league record between 1995 and early 2001 by selling out 455 straight games. Demand for tickets was so great that they sold out all 81 home games before opening day on three separate occasions. Their success in the 90's was highly attributed to their homegrown talent in Albert Belle, Manny Ramirez and Jim Thome among others. Fans fell in love with the household names and when they all left and weren't resigned, hearts were broken and some fans felt chided by ownership. It was almost a complete disrespect not to sign the players when fans poured their hearts and wallets into the team for years previous.

Following a roster overhaul, owner and GM change, the Indians have started to successfully rebuild the team these past few years. While the names aren't the same and the star power will never be the same, some fans struggle to let themselves back in with the way they were done in the past. I think this year's success can have the ability to mend a lot of past wounds though. I just hope the city realizes that we have a real special team this year before it's too late........

Heavily discounted beer promotions will never again happen in a Major League Stadium.

Reason: A while back (1974) the Indians old field, Cleveland Municipal Stadium, had a promotion for 10 cent beers in an attempt to increase ticket sales. Needless to say, the crowd turned rowdy and raucous and ultimately the game was forfeited to our opponent that day, the Texas Rangers......
