Wow, the Cubs are really laying waste to the Brewers this week. Three in a row in Milwaukee over the Brew Crew's top three starters. The Cubbies go for the four game sweep tomorrow.

Jason Bay hit his first homer as a Red Sox- going from years of chronic losing as a cellar dweller to a team like Boston can revive you.

Same thing happened to the Red Sox on July 4th at Yankee Stadium. Kevin Youkilis hit the top of the wall and it rolled around until it came back in play. Johnny Damon hurt himself on the play and subsequently went on the DL.

Talk about a great start:


The Pirates Jeff Karstens had a perfect game going through 7 2/3 innings today as the Bucs beats the D-Backs, 2-0. Karstens, who came over from the Yankees in the Nady/Marte trade, has now pitched 15 scoreless innings in a Pirates uniform. Last Friday he pitched six shutout innings in a 3-0 win over the Cubs at Wrigley. Today, Karstens pitched a complete game two-hitter in Phoenix.

What a game at the Trop today! The Indians had a 7-4 lead going into the bottom of the ninth, and then the Rays scored six runs WITHOUT MAKING AN OUT!! The six run outburst included a two-run homer and a three-run walkoff shot by Carlos Pena.




BTW,
something must be in the water down there in St. Pete. Rays manager Joe Maddon, benched B.J. Upton for today's game for not running down the line in last night's game. And today, Tribe manager Eric Wedge pulled Ryan Garko during the game and replaced him with Andy Marte, for committing the same offense.

Yet another example of what a disaster our bullpen has been this year. What an embarrassment!

And good for Wedge for pulling Garko. Not running out a ball is completely inexcusable. Besides, Garko should be hustling his brain out to even prove his worth to this team. His offense this year has been, well, offensive! Bench him for a few additional games Wedge! There's no room for that blatant sign of surrender on this team!

I think some people excuse how important a bullpen is to a teams success.

In both Detroit's and Cleveland's seasons, the bullpen has been their achilies heel.

Offense comes and goes in slumps and streaks, but there is almost no cure to a bad bullpen. Once a pitcher becomes a head case, it's almost contagious to the rest of them. A late inning loss is also soooo demoralizing to a team. Demoralizing losses are carried over through future games.

I urge Shapiro to take some of that money they saved by not signing Sabathia and Blake and go get a stud closer and solid setup guy this off-season!
